It is bizarre. McCarthy is a gutless weasel, which is why the GOP will make him Speaker. This is the kind of “leadership” the party wants.

Don siding with his father in supporting a RINO is also a mistake.

A far bigger and absolutely unforgivable mistake would be if Republican bickering allowed Democrats to decide the next House speaker. I think McCarthy is weak - but none of his GOP opponents can present a viable alternative and if we end up with some Democrat-backed "moderate", we've thrown away even the small victory of a slender House majority.

The democrats don’t need to undercut the republicans.

There are enough RINOs in the House, that secretly support the Left, that will vote in the interest of bipartisanship that undercutting won’t be necessary.

Without those 5 votes, the GOP can’t even get McCarthy in and the next speaker may be a Dem or Liz Cheney.

That's the public number. They're could be more. Remember, McCarthy was short 30 votes during the internal vote a couple of weeks ago. That being said, It would be political suicide for any GOP member of the new Congress to vote for Liz Cheney or Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker. It will haunt them into 2024. The most that Cheney or a Dem member will get is 213 votes. So let's be realistic here.

How many times can it be said that conservatives don’t have the votes. The closest person is Kevin and he has at least 188. Andy Biggs tried hard, he gave full effort. He wanted it so badly and he got 30 votes. To try and get from 30 to 218 would take two years! a number of good ones don’t want to run. So what is your suggestion besides complaining?

Biggs wasn't expected to win. That wasn't the purpose of the internal secret ballot contest. It was simply to show that McCarthy didn't have the support of the House Republicans. Just b/c nobody hasn't stepped up publicly doesn't mean no one will later.

Too many GOP congresscritters are swamp creatures. They know they will be rewarded with fat paychecks once they leave the House and join K Street. I would prefer that they get exposed for who and what they are now, rather than settling for a RINO Speaker like McCarthy.
