I believe a robot was used to kill a copkiller in Texas, but that robot was being operated remotely by a human.
I can see the use of manually-operated robots being okay, whereas autonomous robots making their own decisions about if/when to shoot being very bad.
The important question is not whether robots can kill, but whether autonomous robots can kill.

Well that’s a good point. If it’s operating under human control and the human is making the decisions, then it’s really more of a tool than a robot.
I don’t think you can ever delagate human judgement to a machine, even one operated by a human at a safe distance. Cops are highly paid to confront the desperate and have a duty to attempt to de-escalate life and death situations before making a split second decision one way or another to use deadly force. Been there, done that.
I’d be concerned with how hackable they might be?
