The coalition negotiations: Ben Gvir will ask to include in the agreements a death penalty law for terrorists Moran Azoulai, November 14, 2022 The chairman of Otzma Yehudit Itamar Ben Gvir is expected today (Monday) to request the death penalty law for terrorists as a clause in the coalition agreements. The law has been on and off the agenda from time to time due to elements that took part in the coalition and opposed it. Now, in the emerging right-wing government, there seems to be a clear majority for the law. However, it is not clear how motivated the Likud is to allow the enactment of the law...

Otzma Yehudit is also attaching a draft of a bill on which they wish to base themselves. "In recent years we have witnessed an increasingly widespread phenomenon of terrorist acts of murdering Jews, just because they are Jews," the proposal states. "What all these terrorist incidents have in common is the murder of Jews, only because they are Jews, citizens of the state, with the aim of harming the State of Israel and the revival of the Jewish people in their country." It is also written that "after every terrorist incident, the heads of the security establishment promise that 'the long arm of the State of Israel will come to account with the murderers.' ". Regarding the goals of the controversial law, it is written: "The goal of this bill is to stamp out terrorism at its outset, and create a severe deterrent. No more prisons with 'all-inclusive' conditions. No more releases of terrorists after serving half of their sentences.

"According to this proposal - a terrorist who is convicted of murder out of a motive of racism or hostility towards the public, and in circumstances where the act was done with the aim of harming the State of Israel and the revival of the Jewish people in his country, will be sentenced to the death penalty - mandatory," it said. "Not by permission, not by discretion. Mandatory punishment. Also, the proposal seeks to change the law applicable in the region, and to establish that it will be possible to pass the death penalty even with a majority opinion, and that it will not be possible to reduce the punishment of those who received a final sentence."

I doubt it will pass this time around, but it might bring about fruition in the future.

This should be law. It should’ve been law for the last 100 years.

In addition, desperate times - desperate measures.

I don’t know if that would stop terrorists. But it would cut down on recidivism.
