Throw a few auto carriers on the end of the train going back. Amtrak can move taxpayers out of New England.

It is not w messy to get a train under the Hudson. There’s the path but it’s not like the LIRR going under the east river into Penn satiation. Nor like Metro North going up to tarrytown, new Rochelle or into Connecticut to Stamford and beyond over the east river where the divide is less than a half mile. The 3rd Avenue bridge takes you to New York proper into the Bronx in a zip
The Lincoln tunnel from 39th street to weehawken is 1.5 miles
NJ commuters have always had that challenge. They drive in they take the ferry. They car pool. They take the bus. Riders from rockland county go by car.
Geology of Manhattan is a huge factor.
