Maura Healey is going from the basketball court to the Massachusetts governor's house, with a little under 30 years in between.

The current Attorney General of Massachusetts is projected to defeat Republican Geoff Diehl, flipping the office back to Democrats after two terms under Charlie Baker. Not only is Healey the first woman to be elected to the office, she's also the first open lesbian to be elected governor in U.S. history.(Emphasis Mine)

I immediately knew something was wrong with the bolded statement. No Healy IS NOT the first L in LGBT to be elected governor in U.S. history. That dishonor belongs to Oregon Governor Kate Brown who won a special election in 2016 and a full term in 2018. I guess Healey being just another L political hack no longer draws special attention, so the writer had to lie about Healey being a political pioneer. This historical innacuracy not only evaded the editors but on the Yahoo main page it is featured in the blurb.

I let the writer off the hook on that one because the writer stated “elected”. Swift rose to the position when the sitting governor resigned to serve as an ambassador. Swift was never elected to the office.
