Wisconsin Republicans Stand on the Verge of Total, Veto-Proof Power (the horror!)
nytimes.com ^ | 11/4/22 | Reid J. Epstein

The three counties in Wisconsin’s far northwest corner make up one of the last patches of rural America that have remained loyal to Democrats through the Obama and Trump years.

But after voting Democratic in every presidential election since 1976, and consistently sending the party’s candidates to the State Legislature for even longer, the area could now defect to the Republican Party. The ramifications would ripple far beyond the shores of Lake Superior.

If Wisconsin Democrats lose several low-budget state legislative contests here on Tuesday — which appears increasingly likely because of new and even more gerrymandered political maps — it may not matter who wins the $114 million tossup contest for governor between Gov. Tony Evers, a Democrat, and Tim Michels, a Republican. Those northern seats would put Republicans in reach of veto-proof supermajorities that would render a Democratic governor functionally irrelevant.

Even though Wisconsin remains a 50-50 state in statewide elections, Democrats would be on the verge of obsolescence.

There has NEVER been a similar story about, say, the Massachusetts legislature.

For ya see, when DEMOCRATS have total power, why that's the natural order of things, and perfectly ok, and mine eyes never notices such things.

“By the shores of Gitche Gumee,
By the shining Big-Sea waters...”

Maybe Nokomis is like suburban housewives everywhere, this year is time to leave the Democrat party. Or maybe the party left them.

The REASON the far NW corner of our state is blue, is due to influence from Minnesota! Many people live in one state and work in the other, up there.

Having had a bullet-proof Republican Congress since Governor Walker left, has stopped the bleeding that our current idiot Art Teacher Governor could’ve otherwise caused!

I think Wisconsin WILL deliver for America as a whole on November 8th. :)

Not sure who would be more worried here.

The democrats or the Republican power brokers in the State Legislature like Robin Vos who would actually have to then put up or shut up for us Wisconsinites.

Brokers like Vos continue to say that illegal voting in WI is a conspiracy theory…while Cities of Milwaukee Green Bay and Madison all continue to have prove-able coordinated fraud reported continually.

We may be a red state legislatively but as long as guys like Vos hold the legislative muscle we aren’t getting sh!t for our efforts.

Rush Limbaugh used to say "to the media, leftism is simply 'what is.'"

He’s a problem in his own right.

Or NY, even if Zeldin wins the Dems have super majorities in the legislature.

“Or NY, even if Zeldin wins the Dems have super majorities in the legislature.”

I don’t think that’s the case with NY. Republicans held the state senate until 2019.

How long have the dems had a veto-proof majority in California? Because of the ‘jungle-primary’ rules, Republicans are lucky to even get on the general election ballot.
