That may well be an additional interpretation, but there is simply no reason to not take that passage literally, especially these days in light of technology, biochipping, and the push for a cashless society.

I also think the passage should be taken literally. ..... Animals are already "chipped" for safety reasons and identification. It's not at all a stretch to humans which have already been done.
