Kinda figured it was advice. Remember spell check is your friend. An 80+ year old man dancing the hammer dance with a gay lefty activist from Berkeley is a tough story to spin. I bet the SFPD has plenty of money for doughnuts. 😛
Spell-check wouldn't have "picked up" on it; "advice" and "advise" are both correctly-spelled words. Rather, it is a syntactical / usage error. However, there is grammar software that would have detected a mistake.
