Career
Laura Kavanaugh was appointed to the FDNY as Assistant Commissioner for External Affairs in 2014.
In 2016 she was appointed as the Deputy Commissioner for Government Affairs and Special Projects. On January 31, 2018, she was appointed as the First Deputy Commissioner of the New York City Fire Department. In February of 2022 she was appointed as intrem Fire commissioner after the retirement of Daniel Nigro[5][2]
An avid runner, Commissioner Kavanagh has completed two New York City Marathons and is a regular participant in the stair climbs that honor fallen first responders and their families.
