Earth's warming hole not indication of abrupt climate change event, study finds

The UM Rosenstiel School researchers used a state-of-the-art climate model to investigate a pattern of temperature change in a swath of water in the subpolar North Atlantic region, called a warming hole, that has been cooling over the past century. Scientists have considered this cooling a result of a slowdown of a planetary-scale ocean circulation, called the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC), that transports energy to the North Atlantic.

"However, our study shows the warming hole during the past century is unlikely due to a slowdown of the AMOC. Instead, the warming hole is actually a consequence of human driven changes in the atmosphere" said Chengfei He, a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the Rosenstiel School. "Our finding suggest that this warming hole will not result in an abrupt climate change event lethal to humans as depicted in Hollywood movies."

The climate model used by the researchers was a digital Earth that can reproduce past climate changes and predict future climate change. To conduct this study, He and his coauthors configured the model with a motionless ocean to examine how the North Atlantic temperature responds to the atmosphere change due to the greenhouse gas and aerosol emissions.

Tell me doctor Chengfei He, did your research include determining if any cooling had occurred in the past, possibly suggesting a cyclical cooling/warming?

Even the idea of a 1000-year rain event suggests that it happens withing a millennial window or so, right?

These charlatans are so funny, see how carefully they choose their words?

It is a ‘warming hole’ Even though it is a warm area that has been COOLING for centuries.

Why don’t they call it a cooling hole?

This is really concerning, even though some areas have been recovering from the little ice age and increasing temperatures for the last century, this area follows the overall millennial trend of a cooling earth, which results in lower precipitation, arid conditions and famine.

That won’t stop the greenies from going bonkers over it!

The climate model used by the researchers was a digital Earth that can reproduce past climate changes and predict future climate change.

Complete nonsense.

We do not even know past climate changes with certainty and precision.

The claim we can model local effects with a climate model is preposterous.

Models are written by biased programmers. In other words, CC = BS.

People started keeping relatively widespread careful measurements at the end of a little ice age ... what do these liar expect but warming?

I suspect that there are many perfect correlations on weather and the operation of HAARP and similar devices.

Haven’t all of the previous climate models been “state of the art”?
Haven’t they also been bogus?

Why can’t humans make it rain in drought areas if we have such an impact on climate in other areas?

Yo! UM Rosenstiel School researchers.

I’ll show you a “warming hole” called the Gulf of Mexico.

Come on down!

Oh guys, there’s also worm hole down here, but don’t tell anybody.

5.56mm

“People started keeping relatively widespread careful measurements at the end of a little ice age .”

Little Ice Age is usually defined as ending about 1850, some say earlier. In 1850 accurate standardized weather measurements were being conducted mostly in Europe, East Coast of North America, some on the West Coast. A handful of other places would have existed in North and South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, some parts of Asia and a few other spots, but no global coverage by any definition. Not until WW2 was there anything close to global coverage. Really global coverage started in the 1960-70’s with space based measurements. At best we have less than 100 years of good records.

I suppose that volcanic eruptions and mass forest fires played no role while a 3hp brigs engine is just killing us.

Just the same, the LIA, of indeed the MWP before it, can either be viewed as representative of conditions beyond Europe and the North America or an exception to it.

I’ve heard Greens try to say it was an exception in either case, a result of conditions localized to the Atlantic ... but that seems a rather self serving stance for them to take seeing that they want to attribute whatever the climate is doing to humans harming it.

So it is not necessarily the case that less data doesn’t mean bad or non-representative data from which trends and conditions beyond can not be reasonably inferred.

Please keep in mind the climate models the current lot are using have been pulled from their collective asses and that when dealing with the likes of the IPCC they were given the politically determined objective to find anthropogenic warming and that is exactly what they found: surprise, surprise!

Never trust bastards.

Almost by definition the lefty Greens are bonkers ... or else they are only green on the surface and Reds to their core.
