The US says it agrees with Western allies that Iran's supply of explosive drones to Russia violates UN sanctions.
Kyiv was struck by so-called "kamikaze" drones on Monday, unleashed by Russia but believed to be Iranian-made.
The US agrees with the French and British assessment that the drones violate UN Security Council Resolution 2231, the US State Department said.
That resolution, linked to Iran's nuclear accord, bars Iranian transfers of certain military technologies.
Ukraine has identified the drones - or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) - as Iranian Shahed-136 weapons. They are called kamikaze drones after the Japanese fighter pilots who flew suicide missions in World War Two.
"It is our belief that these UAVs that were transferred from Iran to Russia and used by Russia in Ukraine are among the weapons that would remain embargoed under 2231," said Vedant Patel of the state department.

Quick! Write a strongly worded letter and make a speech at the UN.
That will teach them!
Meanwhile, Biden continues to cuddle up to Iran and grant it nuclear weapons.
Ukrainian defence minister says Kyiv is looking to buy more from Turkey and an entire production plant may work to complete the order

We going to sanction Turkey?
I’m sure Iran is very ‘hurt’ by the US saying that they’re violating ‘sanctions’.
Let’s see if I’ve got this right = the U.S. supplies drones (Switchblades) to Ukraine but Iran supplying drones to Russia violates some sort of NATO edict. Rich hypocrisy with that one and good luck convincing Iran to change course. I thought bombings have no effect on the war. Why then all the fuss?
Why is it ok for the USA to give $100,000,000,000 worth of weaponry to the Ukraine, but Russia can’t use Iranian weapons?
The American-made Switchblade drones did not work, and were, in fact, a joke. Thrown out as trash after early failures.
This is extremely embarrassing for the MIC in terms of future foreign military sales. And make no mistake, the MIC is calling the shots. Politicians are just bought puppets.
Where is the ven diagram and flow chart tracking the money in this war game?
A source and use of funds would help highlight the bad acts of the players on both sides.
Post 8- thanks for the clip focusing on the cash flow.
Joe Kent has it exactly right.
Of the billions “sent to Ukraine” almost all of it actually goes to gigantic military contractors, straight into their pockets.
This is why it’s a joke to compare, for example, American to Russian defense spending.
When the USAF buys a $100 hammer, $95 goes right into Daddy Warbucks bank account.
That’s why they love the F-35 at $330 MILLION a plane.
Actual war fighting ability is not the point.
Grifting billions of tax-payer dollars to the MIC is the point.
So you’re on the side of the Iranians now, Comrade Bob?
“So you’re on the side of the Iranians now, Comrade Bob?”
You sure have an active imagination, Neocon.
The Chinese also are buying the drones. Taiwa.
So what?
Trying to equate Ukraine and Afghanistan is irrational
I am thinking that there is likely a lot of very interesting new technology being used in this “war” - StarLink in combat, drones, javelins, etc. Actual news of its use may well be vital to Americans. It will not all be the pretty light show of Baghdad.
Americans have zero visibility of what I am sure China’s government is watching intently. We cannot see through the “fog” of BS emanating from our own Swamp.
I’m wondering why Russia has to import weapons
Because they're out and can't replace them internally.
Below is my earlier post on another thread indicating what seems to me to be a change.......
In an article today in Al Jazeera, it is noted that Israeli President Herzog is visiting Biden. This is a White House Quote.
“Biden and Herzog will “consult on key issues, including regional and global challenges of mutual concern, opportunities to deepen Israel’s regional integration and ways to advance equal measures of freedom, prosperity and security for both Israelis and Palestinians”, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said.”
also:
the US administration has focused on regional “integration”, advancing a vision of the Middle East where Arab countries cooperate militarily and economically with Israel to ward off perceived common threats, namely Iran.
Those sentences indicate that I am wrong. To me, it indicates a change away from the Obama Iranian nuclear treaty legacy to the Trump Abrams Accord policy both Israel and the regional Arabs are committed to.
The Jerusalem Post says the same in more muted fashion
Anyway, it seems to be a very recent change in the Biden outlook on Iran
