The good news for Australia is that those areas are far away from major population centers.
However, there would be radiation issues in Australia from a nuclear war.
South America is a safer bet.

The initial detonation are survivable if you are out of the main blast zone.
If you are 20 miles away you it may Crack your windows.
So then you have to shelter from the fallout for a couple of weeks at least.
Then it gets tough.
Point is, you have a good chance at surviving the initial blast(s). The rest is dependent upon your personal preparation, and perhaps a little luck.

Last week Tucker said the explosive size of the current class of nuclear is such that a hit on NYC would take out the east coast down to Miami. He also said people in the know are genuinely worried that Biden administrations no-negotiations stance toward Russia could spin us into a nuclear confrontation
