Snowden has been out-of-the-loop and in a vacuum for 10+ years. Technology, systems and hardware have all moved on. Certainly the Russians de-briefed him early, but I would imagine Snowden as an ongoing intelligence asset is completely useless.

Edward Snowden is brilliant and he has the intellect to quickly understand and absorb the latest technology.
Snowden is a talented man who could develop his skills and likely has done so rather than waste his life away.
