Anyone who listened to Vladimir Putin’s TV broadcast to his nation on September 21 had to be shocked by the Russian leader’s tone, incoherence and threat.
US President Joe Biden, in a speech to the UN General Assembly, only made matters worse, not better, by putting all of the burden unequivocally on Putin’s head.
There are many impacts from these events, including the bitter possibility of a wider war that will spill over into Europe.
Both Biden and Putin seem to think they can play this kind of poker. Not only will they both lose, but the world will be greatly endangered.
To take the view that the only outcome in Ukraine is win or lose, and that if Russia loses it may use weapons of mass destruction or the Russian government may collapse into chaos, is not in anyone’s interest.
We are at a moment more dangerous than the Cuban Missile Crisis, the closest the Cold War came to escalating into a full-scale nuclear war.
Sad to say, but the US president does not seem to grasp the danger or understand his responsibilities. Biden’s reckless verbiage is not a contribution to peace.
Nor are the various proclamations from Europe’s leaders or from NATO. Putin’s statements are even worse. Instead of incendiary rhetoric, we need practical and workable solutions to the crisis in Ukraine and in Russia.

Biden he’s just talking strong for the United nations, otherwise he has no problem with the Ukraine invasion.
Countdown until Russian troll “Cranked” shows up to inject official state propaganda from his boyfriend Putie...
Biden’s been threatening all the time lately...almost like “I dare you”...well, if Russia doesn’t attack the USA, we shouldn’t be playing. This isn’t the 1940s...those countries all have their own armies...and IMO, NATO shouldn’t exist.
Hoping to go out with a bang?
Does the propaganda ever get any less ridiculous?
Whatever it is, we can count on this Biden WH to get everything wrong. They’re stupid morons who have no business in foreign policy at all. They really don’t even understand the world out there and are more concerned with LGBTQ and gender bending along with crushing the republicans more than anything else.
We’re in a huge hot mess because of these incompetent asswipes.
My, my, suddenly it is July 1914 again.
No, I admit this like the British propaganda that had Wilhelm II dying multiple times and even sucked in Kipling to write a poem he deeply regretted afterwards. That said, Putin does appear ill and has declared he will not stand for reelection. The times are much more dangerous than many, or possibly most, can even begin to grasp.
Or possibly 1912 and the First Balkan War.
The evil ones in charge won’t be happy until the nukes go off.
Plan accordingly.
The trouble is, given that Ukraine refused to implement Minsk, and we encouraged this, how can any new agreement be believed by the Russian side? Why should anyone think such an agreement would be honored? It’s also quite clear the US is not interested in such a solution, but is bent on regime change in Russia.
It’s a truly sad for the Ukrainian people, too. Zelensky ran on a peace ticket and got 70% of the vote. The people wanted Minsk and peace. He deeply disappointed them, and his popularity was down in the 20% range right before the war.
Yes, dangerous times indeed.
“Both Biden and Putin seem to think they can play this kind of poker. Not only will they both lose, but the world will be greatly endangered.”
But what if they’re in cahoots?
Whom the gods would destroy...
Mao was 76 when he began one of the most brutal domestic purges in history with the Cultural Revolution. And he would live another ten years thereafter.
I’ve likened Ukraine to Manchuria 1931, so many we have another 8 years until things get really interesting.
I can't give them credit for being concerned for anything other than ice cream flavoring and face masking.
What an interesting conjunction. If one has close relatives in the armed forces it is time for a serious discussion as to when desertion is absolutely required.
Some truthful facts in this article and a balanced approach (give or take) in getting negotiations clearly back on the table. There is no other way.
Although IMO the US should stay out of it entirely.....few want a solution other than the US control over Ukraine as much as possible and that’s not a fit.
