The US Air Force will unveil its next-generation stealth bomber, the B-21 Raider, during the first week of December, lifting the tight cloak of secrecy that has surrounded the aircraft's development.

Northrop Grumman and the Air Force confirmed the timeline for unveiling the B-21 on Tuesday, saying that it will offer an 'exclusive view' of the aircraft at the company's facility in Palmdale, California.

The bomber, which will be nuclear-capable, will cost about $639 million per plane, and the Pentagon plans to buy at least 100 of them to complement and eventually replace the aging B-2 Spirit.

'The B-21 is the most advanced military aircraft ever built and is a product of pioneering innovation and technological excellence,' said Northrop Grumman exec Doug Young in a statement.

Hmmm, wonder if that will soon be exposed as having been made with Chinese parts as with the F-35, F-16, and B-1s.....

On 19 September 2016, the B-21 was formally named "Raider" in honor of the Doolittle Raiders.[26] The then-remaining survivor of the Doolittle Raiders, retired Lt. Col. Richard E. Cole, was present at the naming ceremony at the Air Force Association conference.[27]

I’m sure this aircraft will be as effective as the Artemis spacecraft, as cost effective as the F-35, and made by the best diversity hire students possible

The Chinese have already hacked it, or we have traitors in our ranks that gave them all of the information regarding its manufacture. Or both.

One very interesting bullet point in the article: “Capable of crewless operation.” Sends up all sorts of interesting questions, doesn’t it? I seriously doubt it’s a ground-piloted drone. So just how smart is this thing?

Why the secrecy? We know the Chinese already have the drawings and the schematics. Probably hand delivered to Beijing by John Brennan himself.

1) Why uncloak it? I am as curious as anyone else, but if they’ve kept it secret for this long, why make it public? The answer can only lay in politics.

2) the air force will never buy 100. That’s what they said about the B2 and they stopped at twenty.

Each side lives in a strange place of technology. We both invest billions on cutting edge aircraft and they are most effective against an enemy of not equal technology and thus I question this quest of extreme superiority in conventional weapons and would think it should be nuclear standoff against an equal enemy. We must keep superiority in conventional weapons for small regional wars if we must engage and if we engage it means our political class has failed.

If we must engage an enemy of equal class, it will soon devolve into thermonuclear intercontinental war if they or we can think one can win. This should avoided.

Always say they are going to build 100+ of a new plane or ship, but history says about 10-12 will be the limit...

They serve no real operational purpose. Bombers didn't win the war in Korea (stalemate). Bombers didn't win the war in Vietnam (loss). Bombers didn't really participate too much in the Gulf War (win). Bombers didn't win the war in Iraq (stalemate). Bombers didn't win the war in Afghanistan (loss).
