What difference does this make if its optional? That is, if natural men turned or identified as women race, can they still race as women?
In other words, a separate division for men pretending to be women . . . because women pretending to be men won’t have a snowball’s chance vs. the men in ladies’ clothes.
I wonder if the people fighting on Lexington Green and at Concord some years ago would have imagined this as the way modern folk would celebrate on the anniversary.
I’m okay with it. The Boston Marathon has men and women running together on the same course but the men have a winner and the women have a winner. If you want to race as a non-binary, cool. Just don’t run as a woman when you’re really a man.

I could see someone entering as non-binary, just to have a better chance to win. Suppose there are only a handful of non-binary runners? You would face a heck of a lot less competition in that category. And thus have a much better chance of being a marathon winner.
And given the trend here, the non-binary winner will be honored on the same basis as the men’s and women’s division winners.

I don’t think that’s what it says. The “nonbinary” category is for those who, due to serious self-delusion, do not consider themselves to be of either real gender. If a guy says he’s a girl, then he still gets to run as a girl.
If true, that’s the coward’s way out.
Normal sane tough people would simply say, trannies are not the sex they claim and cannot enter the women’s class.

Non-binary: Doesn’t particularly identify as a man nor a woman.
We need to have the rule be: if you have a Y chromosome, you race according to men’s standards.
Just anecdotal evidence, but the only “non binary” people I have ever seen, have been on TV interviews, and all appeared to be biological females.
So based on that anecdotal evidence, it seems that some people who appear to be of a certain sex, deny that they are that particular biological sex.
