Scientists propose controversial plan to refreeze North and South Poles by spraying sulphur dioxide into atmosphere

Scientists have outlined a controversial plan to refreeze the North and South Poles, and dial down the global thermostat.

They say high-flying jets could spray microscopic aerosol particles into the atmosphere to reflect sunlight and cool the melting icecaps.

Around 175,000 flights a year would be needed, releasing millions of tonnes of carbon dioxide.

But a former UK chief scientist backed the plans, telling Sky News that polar warming is now critical - and refreezing the ice could hold back the rise in global sea levels.

The new study was led by Wake Smith from Yale University in the United States.

He warned the plan would treat an important symptom of climate change, not the cause.

"It's aspirin, not penicillin. It's not a substitute for decarbonisation," he said.

Under the plan, a fleet of 125 military air-to-air refuelling tankers would release a cloud of microscopic sulphur dioxide particles at an altitude of 43,000ft (13km) and latitude of 60 degrees in both hemispheres, roughly equivalent to the Shetland Islands in the north, and the Falklands in the south.

The particles would slowly drift towards the poles on high-altitude winds, slightly shading the Earth's surface beneath.

Exactly. In the 1970s “acid rain” was the big deal and cause for the creation of the EPA among other ill effects.

Now these same people will *cause* acid rain ostensibly to cool the planet but the goal now is really the same as then — mass depopulation. Kill, kill, kill. Destroy until it’s pagan kings ruling over a scarce and ignorant population.

For the rest of us, not knowing the immediate outcome, preserve knowledge. How-to of basic up to modern industry, farming, defense, real history, and culture. Store it so it’s hard to destroy, and everyone participate so they can’t just alter or remove a central repository. If, God forbid, “they” get anywhere near their goal of reducing the world to 500M people, that’s a lot of planet available for any rogue group(s) to refire free civilization — if they haven’t lost the means to do so.

As if we do not get enough particulate and So2 from these:

Lots of active volcanos creating atmosphere, especially in high latitudes that he wants to seed! (Iceland / Kamchatka/ Alaska)

Volcano Discovery

I am sure they have a bunch of vulanologists and NOAA types on staff that helped them calculate the annual so2 and particulate output from these!

Volcanos in Iceland

And there is always this....

175,000 flights per year = 480 per day.

So 20 planes any given hour would be doing this? 24/7/365?

Where will they be based? Where will the pilots come from? Who’s going to be making the material in question?

I know it’s not a serious proposal but even after reading the absurdity of it I can’t even begin to calculate the cost for this monstrosity of an idea.

The Day is swiftly approaching!

And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
Revelation 11:18 KJV

Let me say it again - We are in the Quaternary (2.58 Mya to now), a geological age characterized by cyclic transcontinental glaciations. Cyclic is a key word here it means they come and go at semi-regular time intervals. This is not a secret!
For the last 20,00 years we have enjoyed a warming period with some ups and downs (Roman warming period, Medieval warming period, Little Ice age, etc.) Someday the “big down” will come the cold, really cold will come back and there’s nothing we can do about it. It could start tomorrow, or in 100 years, a 1000 but it’s coming back! I guess maybe just maybe we could do something stupid like this plan and bring the cold back sooner! That would be real smart! Ivy League Yale University smart!

The ice caps aren’t melting.

Not so long ago those idiots were proposing coal dust be scattered in the arctic.

Sad irony is that those idiots are the ones who will end up destroying the planet — by trying to save it.

If there is too much ice, they complain. If there is too little ice, they complain. If there is little change over a period of time, they simply ignore the data.

Actually the SO2 idea has been around for a while. Neal Stephenson wrote a whole book about it. It has some potential issues but honestly not a terrible idea. It’s biggest hurdle is that the current crop of environmentalists is guilt driven not solution driven. They just want to make people feel bad, using science to actually work the problem isn’t on their agenda.

Good move, turn the polar icecaps into sulfuric acid.

Idiot pretend scientists. Among them are likely some of the same ones that think humans already know enough to try to terraform a planet like Mars. When it comes to such planetary feats, humans are not even yet in the “Pre-K” stage of knowledge.
