Individually, probably nothing. If someone believes that they will not become addicted to drugs and chooses to use heroin, they affect mostly themselves and a small circle of family and acquaintances.

Collectively, it is a real problem if people believe in things that are not true. For example, if enough people believe that governments can ensure prosperity by printing money, eventually there will be catastrophic inflation.
