Basically it’s gotten worse over time. You can compare’18/’19 to ‘94, a lot more women were married back then so they were less likely to be reliant on big government.
Not buying that premise since many Republican men and women love that “compound interest”/COLA of SS, Medicare subsidies, and Earned Income Tax Credits.
If your premise was correct, Nixon would of got killed in the primary by someone who was a fiscal zealot, Carter would have never gotten close to the White House, Reagan would of vanquished Federal agencies especially *cough, cough* Department of Education he ran on ending... yet Administrative Law and debt grows and grows. Hard putting that “Genie back into the bottle”. People have traded self-government for security many decades ago.
