RIP. I will never forget watching Bernard Shaw and Judy Woodruff on election night in 1994.

He picked a bad day to die. But it is a good day to be buried … in the far back pages of the newspaper. …

Bernie Shaw, in the first Gulf War he showed us what he learned at the Les Nessman school of war correspondence (Les looked out his window to do the weather report, Bernie looked out hos window to report on the war).

Wasn’t Bernie Shaw the reporter in the 1st Gulf War who refused to provide any information to our military after he got out of Iraq?

From the article:
One of Shaw’s most notable moments came while moderating the second debate of the 1988 Presidential Election.
In the first question of the debate, he asked Democrat presidential nominee Michael Dukakis a highly charged question regarding the death penalty while naming his wife.
“Governor, if Kitty Dukakis were raped and murdered, would you favor an irrevocable death penalty for the killer?” Shaw asked.
Without missing a beat, Dukakis replied: “No, I don’t, Bernard. And I think you know that I’ve opposed the death penalty during all of my life.”
It is believed by many that Dukakis’s tone-deaf answer to Shaw’s question was the key moment that won George H.W. Bush the presidency in 1988.
I disagree. This is the moment Dukakis lost the presidency:

“during the 1988 election, which Shaw was moderating. Knowing that Dukakis opposed the death penalty, Shaw asked him if he would support an irrevocable death penalty for a man who hypothetically raped and murdered Dukakis’s wife. Dukakis responded that he would not”
That was back when a Journalist would hold a democrat’s feet to the fire.

Anyway I remember Bernard Shaw from the 1990-1991 Gulf War. Could it have been that long ago? Some 30+ years. Back when CNN was actually a news network and not a Leftist propaganda tool.
One of the three below was known as the "Scud Stud" - which one was it? I don't remember. Maybe Holliman?

My memories of Bernard Shaw are when my parents first got cable TV when I was in high school in the 1980s to when he retired in 2001. He was old school blue collar journalist at heart and went where the stories were and asked hard questions.
RIP, Bernie.
