Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's longest-reigning monarch who served as the beloved face of her country and source of strength for seven decades, died Thursday at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. She was 96.
Elizabeth's doctors said earlier Thursday that they were "concerned for Her Majesty’s health" and that she was "resting comfortably" at Balmoral under medical supervision.

As an American, I shouldn’t care.
But she represented an institution that is at least 1200 years old. Her family had their individual foibles - but she was a model of public behavior, carrying of tradition, responsibility and service
RIP. She bore her duties with grace, class and dignity.
The UK will miss her.

Yeah. I could never understand the many “royal family” groupies here in the U.S. myself. Especially after Ireland in the 70’s. Isn’t the British Monarchy the ones we fought in 1776 for our own Independence? Belfast wasn’t so lucky.
I was five years old when she became queen. I have witness a lot of history between then and now.

Something tells me that, she was already dead hours ago, perhaps as early as last night.
The hospital personnel were just waiting for family to be gathered before they issued the news.
