I don’t have a problem with the gist of the article, but now WE’RE blaming Bush for Katrina?

“This Is Not Your Father’s Republican Party”

Correct. It’s mostly Obama’s Republican party.

I’m so tired that 20+ years later people are still Monday morning quarter backing the Bush administration. Bush acted strongly and decisively after 9-11. His administration made mistakes, but I’m so glad he was president at that time.

Hurricane Katrina

Tired of this. It wasn’t the Hurricane. It was a levy system failure.

In addition, today’s Squad Party is not my father’s Democrats either. Old people who vote Democrat because they see JFK or Hubert Horatio Hornblower Humphrey in every blue candidate need to get their cataracts removed.

Karina was NOT on Bush. Remember all those school buses sitting idle in the parking lot during Katrina? That was ALL on Ray Nagin, the mayor of Chocolate City. He refused to evacuate the inhabitants. The levies system of which the city received millions from the federal government to specifically shore up, went instead to “other” city services. Even the New Orleans cops decided to raid the local Walmart’s for cassette tapes. How’s that for caring about their people? Freaking savages!

I agree with most of this article. I do not agree with the description of the Katrina response. The battle between establishment Republicans and conservative Republicans predates the Bushes. Goldwater represented a conservative revolt against the Establishment. Nixon, notwithstanding the hatred he generated in the press, was an Establishment Republican. Reagan was a true conservative and the best President in my lifetime. And then we got the Bushes, who dominated the Party for 26 years, although Newt’s influence was very helpful from 96 through 2000. Trump represented another revolt against the Establishment, which is why the Establishment Press has treated him so unfairly. . Whether the standard bearer. is Trump or someone else, must never allow the Bushes and their successors to regain control of the Party.

National Geographic magazine had an issue supporting George Bush about the Katrina response. It was the democrat governor that turned down the federal help prior to the hurricane and the mayor who parked the buses that could have been used to evacuate the people were parked in a flood zone. They both blamed Bush for their bad leadership.
The over reaction of reporters to what was really going on like the Fox News guy Shepard Smith did not help either.

"The Bush-Cheney administration was a total disaster. It was focused on nation-building overseas but ignored major problems domestically. Their bungled and delayed reaction to Hurricane Katrina was one of the worst federal government emergency responses in American history. "

Bush was not responsible for the failures of an irresponsible state and local democrat government.

Oh here we go again! Another Trump Era "conservative" spewing Bush Derangement Syndrome bile. Funny how they all have crawled out of the woodwork.

Of course he blames Bush for Katrina. Why not? Because we all know that Nagin and Blanco were the ones responsible? Because blaming Bush was always a left wing lie? Just like how Bush lied about WMD's? That was a left wing lie from the beginning. A lie that was and is very easily debunked. Yet, that lie has been embraced by "conservatives." I very rarely see a conservative speak out against it these days.

All because Donald Trump is one of the perpetrators of the lie, and has been for years. Ah yes, Donald J Trump. The guy who is going to save America from the "uniparty." The guy who was a left wing Democrat during Bush's presidency. The guy who supported abortion, gun control, amnesty, eminent domain abuse, and gave many dollars to left wingers. The guy who said the economy does better under democrats and Bill freaking Clinton was his favorite president. The guy who praised Obama and Pelosi, but was disappointed that she didn't impeach Bush. If there is a uniparty, Trump embodies it more than anyone.

This is what happens when the truth no longer matters to the party that is supposed to stand for it. When the ony thing that matters is the populist dreck that Trump vomits. So yes he has transformed the party. The only party I have ever been a member of no longer stands for anything. The truth be damned. Excuse me while I forget to celebrate.
