narrative. Duh. They never had anything. The president can declassify whatever he wants. There is no formal ceremony or any other requirement. Whatever he declassifies is declassified forever - ie a future president cannot reclassify it. Things marked “classified” mean nothing. They could have been declassified since then. (the racist NYT seemed to think having a classified stamp on them was a big deal).
The theory I’ve heard is that Trump has a lot of the dirt showing the corruption of the FIB/DOJ in the Russia Collusion Hoax and other corrupt deep state efforts to get him. This is what the FIB wanted so badly....though of course, they were very vague in what they claimed to be looking for in the search warrant. The fact that his safe was empty tells you all you need to know. Trump figured they would do something like this and did not keep the trove of documents there.
I believe they will file charges against Trump because they absolutely cannot ever allow someone who loves the country into the White House ever again.
