growing number of Americans are using 'buy now, pay later' services to purchase basic goods such as groceries, raising concerns about consumers taking on more debt.
Installment-pay services such as Klarna and Afterpay offer interest-free short-term loans to cover purchases, but the fines for late payments can be steep, and critics fear their ease of use could lure shoppers into dangerous debt.
In 2021, $45.9 billion in pay-later transactions were made online, a sharp increase from $15.3 billion the year before, according to a GlobalData analysis reported by the New York Times.
Food accounted for about 6 percent of the purchases last year, but seems to be an important part of the sector's explosive growth, as the soaring cost of groceries in the US raises the appeal of deferred payments.

This is a good sign…
In other news, people are still stupid.
Guess it beats borrowing from these guys....
And since almost all grocery stores and Supermarket chains accept credit cards, there are probably quite a few credit card charges for groceries. And if people don’t pay that bill, then people end up paying interest on those expenses.
I wonder how many of these people don’t cook and are buying more expensive prepared foods. Groceries are more expensive, but I think many can avoid taking out credit to buy groceries if you’re willing to cook for yourself and switch to less expensive alternatives.
This never ends well.
Haven’t you heard? Paying back loans is for boomers. Just borrow what you need and don’t worry about it. /s
It is all part of the Build Back Broke plan.

Never got that far into the hole — it was nonetheless a deep hole.
This ‘groceries’ disaster is completely on the shoulders of the Rats. They destroyed cities, jobs, and lives using riots, lockdowns, and poison. What the Rats deserve is beyond words.
In order to “build back better” you have to tear it all down first.
And yet the Bidenestas are happy to let more and more illegals into the country to put more pressure on the demand for food for American citizens.
Hard-up Americans are now taking out loans to pay for GROCERIES using ‘buy now, pay later’ apps which offer instant credit but can charge hefty fees for late payments

“Can I interest you in this late model rump roast? Isn’t she a beauty? (slapping roast). I’m sure we can arrange financing. What’s your budget?”
I look forward to the demo rats making these loans illegal and “forgiving” their debts.
“the nice pretty new cars are all filling up the parking lot”
Used to donate to a food pantry years ago. Once a month or so would drop off a case of canned veggies, chicken or maybe tuna. Would do this fairly early in the morning before they had opened to public for hand outs. One day I dropped stuff off early afternoon. All the cars in the full parking lot were only 2 to 3 years old it seemed like. Got back into my 7 year old pickup and never went back.
