Half of employers are planning layoffs—here’s how to negotiate your exit if it happens to you

While layoffs were near record lows in July, according to the Labor Department, headline-making cuts at some of the biggest companies — like Apple, Best Buy, Ford and Walmart in the last few weeks — might make you question the stability of your own job. Half of employers say they already have reduced overall headcount or have a plan in place to do so, according to PwC’s latest pulse survey of 722 U.S. executives in August.

There’s not a ton you can do to keep your job from being eliminated, but there are a few ways to make the transition a little better, says Andres Lares, managing partner at Shapiro Negotiations Institute.

A lot of people don’t know severance packages and terms of a layoff are negotiable, Lares tells CNBC Make It. And if they do, they may avoid doing it simply because negotiating feels uncomfortable.

To this, Lares stresses: Though a layoff feels personal to you, to the company it’s a matter of business.

“Step one: have a positive mindset,” Lares says. “Then, prepare.”

Here’s what you can negotiate if you’re laid off, and how to do it.

Lots of Q3 layoffs coming in time for Midterms. Admin asking big companies to wait till after but they’re balking at the heat they’d take for laying off during “Holidays.” Admin is screwed between now and midterms on unemployment issue and inflation issue. Watch for REALLY BIG false flag, attention diverting sh*t to start happening. M2C.

Negotiate!?

How? HR puts the template together and you get a call.

E.N.D. O.F. S.T.O.R.Y.

“Hi, this is [state your name] from HR.”

“I regret to inform you your employment at [company name here] has been terminated effective immediately.”

“This is not a reflection on you or your contribution, your job has been eliminated.”

“All access to the [company name here] netork has been terminated”

“Please do not attempt to copy or transfer files to a drive or send any emails from you company assigned laptop. All activities are being monitored by [company name here] security department. Violations may result in criminal prosecution.”

“Please turn your company laptop and other assets into [company resource depot] located at [company resource depot address] no later than end of business [state due date]”

If your lucky, the company has put resources in place to help with your resume and provide links to job boards.

The negotiating is gonna be limited to: take their offer or screw you. Big corporations incur big risks if they don’t treat all RIFfed employees equally and the won’t do it.

“Throw in a couple boxes.”

They save on the boxes too. Everybody’s working from home.

Due to the Upcoming Elections, Layoffs may be delayed with a bearing re promised favors from the Outhouse.

When and if the layoffs happen, the first wave is to get people off the payroll/premises before Christmas.

The first offer is often the best for the soon to be former employees.

Try to get health care coverage as long as you can get it.

Document anything like a pregnancy with a due date after you leave the company.

The offers often after the first one getter smaller and meaner.

George 76 and I used to joke about getting an empty Kinko’s box to put your personal desk items into before you are escorted off the corporate property.

That is often the 3rd or 4th offer. You are often met by the terminators as you enter the corporate property. Later, ss you drive off the corporate property, you might be escorted by the local police to a quiet safe spot on city streets to try to realize what happened, and get your bearings. The cops may give you 10-15 minute time limit.

If you have a corporate smartphone, that will taken from you very quickly, often before you get your Kinko’s box. So if you are summoned to appear at one of these one way exits, take your own private cell phone.

Besides these offers, often you are asked to show up at a local detective agency staffed with retired FBI agents if they feel that you might get hostile.

You are told to bring all of your company property and company car. Then, you meet the terminating former FBI guys, often in their parking lot or a public one.

Your ride home will often be in a Uber type vehicle. The driver has been ordered not to talk to you. Tipping isn’t necessary!

POCs workers often show up with a lawyer for more personal goodbyes.

Summary: Unless you are a POC or a sexually protected one, the first offer in these terminations are usually the best for the soon to be “former employees!”

“Watch for REALLY BIG false flag, attention diverting sh*t to start happening. M2C.”

Yes, and that false flag could very well be that they will indict President Trump, right before the Mid-Terms. Guaranteed to divert attention.

“Please do not attempt to copy or transfer files to a drive or send any emails from you company assigned laptop.”

One byproduct of working from home is a reduction in ways to quietly chat with coworkers. Wary of using work chats, we have exchanged personal phone info and chat using text and calls on our personal phones and emails.

At the least it will mean that we can stay in contact during and after termination.
