If based on the other comments here the real issue is that this was a degeneratively imaginative pornographic work and not simply Anne’s literary work, this stands as a good example of how the media lies and twists things dramatically to suit their sick purposes.

The biggest takeaway was not the sex stuff, it was how they had to hide and life in Nazi Germany. I read the family friendly version I am sure. I was a preteen/young teen and I would have remembered graphic descriptions.

The first version of Anne Frank’s diary that was published in 1947, and in English in 1952. I read in the 1950’s & 60’s,. It was only later that it was revealed that the 1947 edition was was an edited version of her full diary, that left out the parts of her “sexual musings” and some other topics. I believe that the full, un-edited diary was published 10-20 years ago. I know my high school library (1960s) had a copy of her diary. Here is an article about the parts not published until around 2016

https://www.history.com/news/anne-frank-diary-hidden-pages-discovery?li_source=LI&li_medium=m2m-rcw-history

I can understand folks not wanting their children to be reading about those ‘newly’ revealed redactions of the 1947/1952 editions.

All the versions have been edited because what Anne left was a diary book, a couple of other notebooks, and some loose-leaf pages. Anne had wanted to be a writer and she had begun to re-write parts of her diary in a different way, possibly fictionalized.

The original published version had had anything of a sexual nature removed, along with some other writing such as her thoughts on her parents’ marriage.

There is another version, a “critical” version which contains more or all of what she wrote. This version is more for scholars.

And now there is this version. In an earlier thread it was not clear that this version was a graphic novel (ie, comic book). I am at a loss for words on this.

This does NOT sound like something conservatives would demand.

In short:

1. It is a fictional reimagined graphic novel (i.e. cheap comic book) wrapped around elements of the Anne Frank diary.
2. It portrays graphic homosexual scenes that are not based on the actual book, but inserted as imaginings/fantasy.

I have no idea unless there are some parts of her diary that discuss the wild musings of a young girl surrounded by impossible circumstances. I confess I’ve never read the diary, but I did see a movie about it once.

I guess my question is if there is a particular church, movement pastor or otherwise charismatic character behind this?

It is not the actual book.
It is an illustrated version of the book.
I have no idea what the illustrations show or why THIS version was banned

but people are jumping to conclusions that it is THE book

I have no idea. With all my friends who live in Keller I’m surprised I haven’t heard about this till today.

Some of the book bannings, if as suggested by this report, might be due to “sexual” naterial in a book, can be very illegitimate in my view if the whole context of the material is not considered. No matter what Anne Frank said in her diaries on such matters, there is little belief she was ever attmepting to promote positions on such matters - they were experiences she wrote in her diaries, period. And the diaries have so much validity beyond all that that its a little like taking the declaration of Independnce off the library shelves becauuse Thomas Jefferson owned slaves.

In my personal expeience I saw the stupidity of such moves in a community effort using summer volunteers to help make some fix-up work at a local middle school. In painting one long classroom hallway the took the space running above the dorrways to run the lines of a famous Walt Whitman poem. The altered the poem to remove multiple references it had to guns. “They” worried the snowflake junior high kids would be adversely “triggered” by the words.

Many of these things are places for teaching moments, not book banning.

Patriot Mobile is supporting this attack on The Ann Frank Diary AS WELL AS THE BIBLE.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Hawes’ committee reinstated the book and thought that would be the end of the saga. But following school board elections in May, right-wing activists backed by campaign funds from a PAC affiliated with conservative cell phone company Patriot Mobile gained a majority on the board. They are now rewriting the guidelines for responding to parental book challenges and have ordered all challenged books from last year to be removed from school libraries in the meantime.

“Not the diary - a comic book adaptation that contains graphic images of a sexual nature”

Media lies.

Overt lies.

"What did the illustrations depict? That’s the question."

No, that is really not the question- the question is why the Bible, as in your referenced article.

I did not know that. And in any case several on here have said it is a pornographic version which entirely should be banned from schools.

Why would conservatives want that removed?

As is usually the case, it is all explained in the article at the link!

That is a good question. Why would "conservative parents" want the Holy Bible removed?

It’s a classic, true story. I don’t get this at all if true.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
It’s a classic alright, but true? How do you know it’s true?
I certainly don’t know that, but I do remember reading years ago that her father was the co-author of it.
