Great analysis. Ferriano was a so-so Archivist. During the first 6 months of his administration, there was NO picture of the new president Trump, in the main entrance hall where every other president had their’s placed very soon after being inaugurated.
The excuse was that they did not have a picture of Trump that would fit the standard sized picture frame/holder. BS.
The Archives at College Park, Md. was caught planning to destroy old records due to low usage in order to save storage fees. A somewhat logical reason considering rising costs but the records actually belonged to the GSA and didn’t weren’t supposed to even be in the Archives
possession.
Again a possible bureaucratic error but NARA didn’t want to return them back to the GSA. Their destruction would have been a violation of the Records Preservation Act. Threatened legal action saved the records from destruction and GSA reportedly was getting them back. Guess who the head Archivist was?
There were other stories like this over the years involving the destruction tion of records, for saving storage fees, of records with litigation value, often ranging into the millions of dollars.
God bless a military lawyer who learned about those impending destructions and acted immediately to get a
“preservation hold” on them.
And Sandy Burglar got a slap on his little toe for stealing and reportedly destroying highly classified national security policy documents.
