Don’t bet on it. The old families are dying out, or their young are moving out.

I’m in central PA, a short drive from Berwick. Like most other such towns in the region, it’s changing fast, and not in a good way.

As for house fires, they are common occurrences, though usually not in August. Old houses, electric substandard, heating issues, mostly.

And lately, yes, a few seriously crazy people make the news. Bizarre things are no longer infrequent in the news.

My wife is from a small town in Lake Co. Illinois—north of Chicago. When she was growing up, everyone knew everyone. Looked just now at her home town’s demographics. Over 20% Hispanic.

The demographics of Berwick (like anywhere else) aren't as good as they used to be but they aren't *that* bad yet, and it should be noted that the people of Berwick voted enthusiastically for Trump -- twice.

Unfortunately they do still have a Democrat mayor, who ran unopposed last time around (2021). Hopefully that will change in 2025.
