This needs to be appealed to the SC. Felons on parole, probation, under “supervision”, etc. have by definition not yet completed their sentences. Such persons remain under the control of the State, and lack the independence necessary for voting.
There is something to be said for a felon, having paid his debt to society should be allowed to vote because it’s right. The rats motivation is the vote. We should deny that vote for our interests. We have the right to be selfish.
Despite the odiousness of the racist Democrat who is running against Ted Budd, this was always going to be a close race (as Trump-hating RINOs flee the Trump-endorsed candidate to pick a liberal instead), a race almost certain to be decided by less than 5 points, and now a bunch of black criminals get to swing the outcome.
Remember how the Republican barely won here for Senate in 2020 against a scandal-ridden Democrat? Yes, that scandal was covered up as much as possible by the media controllers, but voters still shouldn't have been as clueless as they were. They probably aren't any less clueless now, as illustrated by polling data. The only polls Budd is leading in are ones done by Republican pollsters.

With Burr and Tillis the Senate seat from NC was lost a while back.
Charlotte went completely Libtard last Tuesday so NC is likely to turn blue very soon.
Tillis isn’t on the ballot, Burr is retiring, and Charlotte has been a liberal sewer for at least 20 years; it didn’t just turn that way on Tuesday.
But you’re not wrong about North Carolina tilting precariously and perhaps falling the wrong way very soon.
Sigh. Pretty soon some states will let illegal aliens vote. Oh, wait ...
Thugs don’t vote. The dems will harvest their votes.
A panel of trial judges struck down the 1973 law in March, declaring it violates the state constitution largely because it discriminates against Black residents.
So, it doesn’t matter, the tule of violent crime you committed and we’re convicted of, it just matters that you’re black. Got it.
I’d like to visit the neighborhoods where these civil rights lawyers live. I’d be curious to see the racial make up of the residents.
Then you obviously have not had many interactions with felons.
Sadly, only Purple because of small handful of cities. Basically, Charlotte and the Research Triangle. More proof that they don’t need every town, city or county, just the numbers in a few cities and they can start running things. Georgia and Tennessee will soon fall to that.
That is the way it was planned to happen. You don’t thin it would be set up to take effect after the mid terms, do you. At least the people will be getting what they wanted. The people wanted Biden. Biden they got. Hope they enjoy him. I damn sure don’t.
I think that having your right to vote while still in prison, is a bit far. You lose all kinds of rights when you’re incarcerated. I have no problem with voting being one of them.
That said, after you have been released you should have all your rights restored.
All North Carolina votes now VOID felons should never be allowed to vote.
They will always have the memory of the cost of doing crime.
Also appealed to the Supreme Court on the basis that the Constitution says the state legislature governs the elections in the states. Not an appointed judge.
Not true. I’m a Christian and believe in redemption.
If a felon reoffends, that’s a different story. In the little known country of the Kingdom of Bigfoot, where I am King for Eternity, there are buildings and cemeteries we use for repeat offenders.
I turn my cheek…once. Everyone deserves a second chance.
Again, bigfootbob, it would appear that you don’t have much experience with violent felons.
I do. And prison, for the most part, does not rehabilitate them in any way shape or form. Emphasis on “for the most part”. There are a few that do their time and never go back to their old life. Usually, those are the ones that are too old to go back to it or have been in and out of prison so much that they can’t find a reason to continue with their old lives. So, I will say that it’s time that matters. The longer they were in or the older they are when they get out, plays a huge role.
As another person commented, they aren’t finished with their sentences. One brush with the law, no matter how small, can send them back to prison. So, my compromise would be that, when they’re completely done with their sentences, they live a clean life for at least 5 years. Get a job, pay the bills, pay the taxes. Then when they’ve done that and get a chance to see what the government does to their paychecks can they be allowed to vote.
However, most do go back to their old ways. Ways of absolutely ZERO respect for their fellow man. A level of impulsivity that you couldn’t imagine. Many a time I’ve been face to face with the guy that just shot, beat, robbed, stabbed, whatever’d someone for no reason.
You can turn the other cheek all you want. I’ll keep my on the wolf that you think has become the house pet.
Years ago I read a study that found 80% of felons register as Democrats.
Yep. If the Dems thought 51% of ex-felons would vote for Republicans, they would be rioting against restoring felon voting rights.
IMO, restoration of civic rights upon actual completion of sentence including probabtion, parole, etc., is reasonable for those who can demonstrate before a judge, a sustained record of employment, sobriety, self-control, etc. The nature of the felon’s lifetime criminal record, should be considered too. Letting releaed felons vote just because they survived prison is a dangerous mistake.
Because blacks make up a small percentage of the population, but commit the majority of felonies, they were "disproportionally" affected, hence "discriminated" against.
Excerpted from 14th Amendment...
"Section 2: Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed. But when the right to vote at any election for the choice of electors for President and Vice President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the Executive and Judicial officers of a State, or the members of the Legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such State, being twenty-one years of age, and citizens of the United States, or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion, or other crime, the basis of representation therein shall be reduced in the proportion which the number of such male citizens shall bear to the whole number of male citizens twenty-one years of age in such State." [Section 2: Apportionment of Representatives]
"Section 5: The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article."
But Trump's red tsunami of patriot supporters will first need to elect a new, Trump-endorsed Congress in 2022 before ignored Section 2 can be enforced imo.
Insights welcome.
