It took him 7 years to come up with this?
Sounds like it.
Talk about a poor judge of character. Despite his rough edges, Trump’s basic decency is palpable. Incredible that these guys make a living commenting on stuff when they’re such dunces.
“Bret Stephens speaks well and confesses. This is a good thing.”
Actually, I appreciate his honesty in the original article. He said what he really thinks about us. Yes, it was demeaning and stupid. But it was honest.
I read that article as, “Oops, insulting them didn’t work. Let’s pretend to like them next time.”
He still thinks we should shut up, go home, and admit that our elite and out of touch ruling class is really the bees knees. He just thinks that their messaging to us needs to less honest than it was previously.
The whole democrat party is trying to figure out how to accomplish that pivot right now. Tulsi Gabbard is the only one who has figured it out.
Well I’m definitely in his “protected” class and yet I am MAGA. It’s puzzling really—I’m a white wealthy woman in the SF Bay Area with a masters degree from a private university and I go wine tasting in Napa monthly. Why am I not a leftist? I suspect it’s the fact that I’m an evangelical Christian. Swings that pendulum right back.
Bret trying to feather his nest. He knows that the Red Tsunami is coming and poor Bret wants an after life!
Good points.
What has Gabbard “figured out”?
“Bret Stephens speaks well and confesses. This is a good thing”
Nothing the NYT is allowed to print is ever a good thing, except for their Anti-Christian and/or tyrannical modernism. The cross-purposes are there if we look (behind this article’s paywall, nor do I care what they say anymore, so I won’t look).
He hates Israel. American socialist Jews would like it if Israel collapsed and Israeli Jews came to the US to help build socialism here.
There are two ways of looking at this:
1. Motives
2. Effects
Most here know the duplicity in motives of those that operate the NY Times. Many including me will not bother to even finish reading a headline put out by the NY Times.
But this headline was particularly catchy. “I WAS WRONG ABOUT TRUMP VOTERS. Got to admit, that’s an eye-catcher.
As to effects, this article is a good thing , even the headline alone. It can be used to divide the enemy, just as they strive to divide MAGA members.
Example: it’s headline and a link to its content can be used to agitate Trump haters on forums such as this:
https://corruptiontrumpandgop.quora.com
I thought it was “All hat and no cattle.’’
I always feel sorry for people who, in admitting a failure, are demonstrating the continuing failure . My neighborhood is fine my finances are fine. People were attracted to Trump because he told the truth and utterly unapologetically. No Al an and this dick “understanding “ the poor and unfortunate and their plight in life is laughable.
No!
Only admitting he doesn’t understand most of America.

Retrospection? From the Left? The tribulation is near!
"regarding same-sex marriage, sex-segregated bathrooms, personal pronouns, meritocratic ideals, race-blind rules, reverence for patriotic symbols, the rules of romance, the presumption of innocence and the distinction between equality of opportunity and outcome — became, more and more, not just passé, but taboo. It’s one thing for social mores to evolve over time, aided by respect for differences of opinion. It’s another for them to be abruptly imposed by one side on another, with little democratic input but a great deal of moral bullying.."
Which only continues, and in a cultural war gone hot, then faced with two electable candidates for president - not your church pastor - you choose a general like Patton who has clear goals and manifest commitment to fulfill them and win the war and who will not be intimidated by the enemy, despite what too often comes out of his mouth providing fodder for the enemie's polemical canon.
Bret Stephens is an example of the rot that remains from a terminal case of TDS.
So what he is saying is only “deplorables” could vote for Trump, certainly not educated people, only now does he understand their sad plight. The people I know, who support Trump, live in safe, lovely neighborhoods, capable of earning their living instead of freebies from the government. My family is “protected”.
I think he is confused, those who vote for democrats want free food, free healthcare, free abortions, free college tuition, free housing, and everything else under the sun.
