RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — More than 300 employees from five state agencies have resigned since Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced Virginia’s new telework policy in early May, according to records obtained by 8News.
This includes 183 Virginia Department of Transportation employees, 28 of whom cited “telework options” as the reason for leaving. Two VDOT workers who listed telework as the reason did move to another state agency, records obtained by 8News after filing a Freedom of Information Act request show.
On May 5, Youngkin ordered all state workers to begin working in-person full-time by July 5, a change the governor said would “balance the demands of government services with the needs of our public servants.”
Other state agencies and divisions, including the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC), provided employment resignations since Youngkin’s announcement in May after 8News filed public record requests.

If they were good to begin with, they would have been hired in the private sector. As a potential employers, I would 86 any application for employment that had a history of government employment listed on it. Too many bad habits are sure to be part and parcel with that.
“Pension Benefits!”
VA State workers pay into that now. 5%
The sales pitch to the boss was that the hour and a half I spend driving to work (both ways) is an hour and a half that I can't work and since I actually work better from home, they are good with it.
I'm actually past full retirement age and this isn't an easy time to replace people, so I have that going for me as well.
“Working from home”
Or pretending to anyway. Many govt jobs are pure bloat. They probably dont gave much to do
“How many of the people who resigned actually were retirement eligible? “
Everyone I know who is refusing is eligible to retire
I have been waiting months for a corrected death certificate to come out of Austin.
“If they are good, they’ll get another job.”
Exactly. Too many people assume that because they worked for government that these people were lazy worthless slackers. However being that these people resigned it tells me that a good percentage of them had other jobs lined up and probably were more skilled engineers, logisticians, contracting officers ect., people who are in high demand in the private sector.
Their replacements will likely be fresh fish just out of college who don’t have any experience.
Will hardly be missed I'd guess.
They could cut the pay and travel allowances accordingly.
Extend that to every federal agency as well with the possible exceptions of the Pentagon (they need in-person collaboration) and the State Department, for the convenience of all the foreign embassies there.
Turn all those offices into budget hotel rooms for the tourists to see the great monument, museums and historical buildings in the district. K-Street would disperse accordingly with the people they schmooze scattered throughout the country.
Repeal the 23rd Amendment, make the government area one giant national park and return the residential portion of the district to Maryland.
Some of the best engineers and logisticians I ever worked with are in the government, some of the worst too. Government experience should not eliminate a potential employee and sometimes that experience can be of tremendous benefit to the new employer.
You might be on to something.
If all the useless, overpaid, lazy, incompetent government “workers” quit there would be no government workers.
They like the fuzzy slippers all day. Everyone likes the fuzzy slippers.
Interesting that 183 employees of the Department of Transportation resigned. Biggest hit where the rubber hits the office chair.
Winning.
WINNING!! Felt good. I haven’t been able to say that in quite a while
through the thick of it.
There was no thick of it.
History is going to show that the chinesed flu was hyped to steal the 2020 election and to try to ruin Trump which did not happen.
Most who quit probably weren’t yet vested in the state’s pension plan yet. Also, likely IT workers.
I doubt that he’ll replace any of them...
Teleworkers can suck my big fat ####. F all of you. Spent 2 years carrying the load in the office doing items the teleworkers can’t, or won’t, do remotely. Telework is a complete scam.
