A Reno, Nevada man was arrested and charged Wednesday in connection with the death of a 5-year-old girl who was kidnapped, assaulted, and killed while walking to her kindergarten class at Highland Elementary School in Seaside.
Monterey County District Attorney said Robert Lanoue, 70, was taken into custody July 6th and is currently being held in custody in the state of Nevada pending his extradition to California.
Advertisement In 2020, investigators with the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office Cold Case Task Force worked with Seaside Police Department to reopen Anne Pham’s case and submit evidence from the case for DNA testing.
A new type of DNA testing identified Lanoue as the suspect in Pham’s murder.
Lanoue was 29 years old at the time of the homicide and lived in Seaside.
Lanoue is charged with one count of first-degree murder, with special circumstance allegations that he murdered Pham while committing kidnapping and a lewd act on a child under the age of 14.
Pham's remains were discovered on the former Fort Ord two days after her disappearance.
Got away with it. 70 y.o. At this point nothing matters as he’s not missing anything.
Can he possibly have not repeated this crime? I wonder if there are more victims.
The thing I’ve found most chilling about a lot of the cold cases from decades ago finally being solved by DNA is that a lot of the perps seem to have gone on and lived fairly normal lives after committing that single awful crime. It was more comforting to think the guilty party in these cases was some kind of serial criminal. That way you could write it off as them being just nuts. These people however.....how do you live normally after doing something so evil like this?

Apparently a repeat offender but only caught one other time according to Reno, NV sex offender registry.
It illustrates the depravity of man in a terrifying way doesn’t it? I feel the same way.
Don’t assume these mutts stopped committing their crimes for forty years.
I assume they got better at it with more practice.
Meaning I hope the investigators search for more potential victims.
I’m not so sure. Being free all those years then he’s 70 years old and in prison with a target on his back. I’d guess it’s going to get pretty ugly for him.
