Anglicans React to Dobbs Decision
Anglican Church of North Amercica ^ | 24 June A.D. 2022 | Staff

Today the United States Supreme Court ruled that “the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion,” overruling Roe v. Wade (1973). The decision will “return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives … to be resolved like most important questions in our democracy: by citizens trying to persuade one another and then voting.” In the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a five Justice majority of the Supreme Court overruled both Roe and the 1992 decision Planned Parenthood v. Casey.[1]

The inherent value of human life is revealed in the Scriptures, and this biblical commitment is reflected in the Anglican Church in North America’s Constitution and Canons which calls all members and clergy “to promote and respect the sanctity of every human life from conception to natural death” (Title II.8.3).

Archbishop Beach commented:

While this decision doesn’t end abortion in the U.S., it will lead to fewer children being killed through abortion. We thank God for this limited victory, and the Anglican Church in North America recommits itself to serving mothers so they can embrace motherhood and welcome their children. We also continue to point the way to God’s healing and forgiveness for all who suffer physically and emotionally from their abortion experiences.

The March for Life and the Summit for Life events, held in Washington DC, San Francisco, and Ottawa have been annual events in the life of the Anglican Church in North America drawing members from across the Province to learn more about the ways the Church can mobilize in support of those who are most vulnerable in our society.

Georgette Forney, a leader in the pro-life movement and the president of Anglicans For Life, said:

Anglicans for Life recognizes this decision requires the development of additional pre and post-pregnancy support and resources for women and families facing an unexpected pregnancy. Unplanned pregnancies should be met with planned resources and support, which is what Anglicans For Life has focused on in the past and will continue to emphasize, to a greater degree, in the future.

Let us give thanks to God for this decision and continue to work to safeguard and promote life at the federal, state, and local level. Let us also continue to care and minister to those who continue to suffer from the effects of abortion in their own lives.

[1] Chief Justice Roberts concurred in the judgment that upheld the state law limiting abortion, but would have limited the Court’s ruling more narrowly and did not join the five justice majority in completely overruling Roe and Casey.

The crazy mouth-breathers will be predictably outraged. But any reasonable person will understand that this is letting people decide. It’s “Pro-Choice” is the best possible way. We have 50 states. If you find yourself in an objectionable state, go ahead and move. That’s a choice today in a way that it really wasn’t yesterday.

Wow,surprising! I would have expected the Anglican Church to announce “Catholic churches are now legitimate targets”.

The Episcopal Church, maybe.

But the Anglican Church of North America has been staunchly prolife from its inception.

This “Anglican” Church is much younger than Roe.

It is a conservative offshoot of the American Episcopal church. They stayed with traditional values while the Espiscopal went clear off the reservation.

The Anglican Church in North America and Anglican catholic church are conservatives.

Just as in the Roman Catholic church headed by a liberal Jesuit currently, the Anglican church has split. Episcopalians are the liberal wing and are no longer considered in communion with the conservative Anglicans.

Hmmm...I always thought that the Anglican Church and the Episcopal Church were and the same. And it’s my understanding that Episcopalians are very, very much into abortion, gay marriage, etc, etc. The Episcopal church in my town has a huge rainbow flag and a “black lives matter” sign in front.

There is a huge lot of history in the separation of the Anglican Church of North America from the Episcopal Church USA. The Episcopal Church USA became completely unorthodox to put it nicely.
The Anglicans had to find a way to separate to keep their faith. Most of them had to leave their churches behind that they had tithed into for generations in some cases. The Episcopal Church USA bishops kept the properties.
Except in one diocese, the diocese of San Joaquin California. That diocese had a bishop that took the whole diocese to the southern cone, or the South American church. San Joaquin was able to retain their buildings and ECUSA was furious.
The Anglicans had to find a new way to ordain priests. Some of the Southern parishes of the new Anglican churches went under the covering of the Anglican Church in Africa, Nigeria I believe. Most of them had to start completely over and held services in various places until they were able to regroup and rebuild their congregations. Most of them are more liturgical than Roman Catholic Churches and more conservative.

You are right about the Episcopalians’ leaning, but you were mistaken in believing they are are one and the same as the Anglicans.

Episcopalians are Anglican-lite (in the loafers).

Nope. Split happened long ago. It’s happening in all denominations of Christianity. The separation of the sheep and goats as described in Holy Scripture.

Methodist, Lutheran, Baptist, Catholic...you name it. The liberals have promoted trans, homosexuality, abortion and the like. Conservatives have fled or are now fleeing.

Some ACNA churches are not, in particular one in the DC area.

I left that church. It was Episcopalian masquerading as Anglican (ie woke).
