He is wearing toe clips riding a bike surrounded by Secret Service. When the group seems to turn right, he keeps going straight towards a crowd of people. It looks like he puts his left foot on the ground and then can’t get his tight foot out of the right toe clip and goes down. It was not really a crash. It was a slow fall with one foot already on the ground. He could have really hurt himself.
Why would a man of almost 80 years old be using toe clips? I thought they were for a professional bike racers.

They look like the old-style toe clips, referred to as “rat traps”. They’ve been obsolete for at least 20 years, replaced by the so called “clipless” pedals where you twist your foot to unlock from the pedal clip.

A pro cyclist will click in their pedals with special shoes. They take even more coordination to get out of, but toe clips will trap your feet in if you don’t know how to slip out of them in time.
