“Assault Rifles” are used in very few crimes. Of course they have been the weapon associated with a handful of horrible mass shootings but statistically speaking they are a very minor player in overall shootings. This is purely an emotional response to a tragedy and emotions should not be the basis of making laws.

You are correct. Every time the Left uses a TERM “assault rifle” they should be immediately and properly corrected.
The Assault Rifle definition is quite specific. AR-15 “basis” “military style” “assault weapons”— are NOT “Assault Rifles”. Assault Rifles are military designed, and on select fire 3- they are autoloading continuous firing machine guns. One must have a high federal FEE license to own one of these as a civilian, and also for a sub-machine gun like a Thompson 50 cal. The application fee is large- and the application one must WAIVE one’s 4th Amendment Rights for the specific weapon on Federal Record. That is the law since 1934, and re-upped in 1986.
They should ALWAYS be immediately corrected on the terms they fling about. These “types” of rifles are not different than current hunting rifles of the same kind of firing mechanism. They are not ever Assault Rifles, nor can these idiots substitute the term “Assault Weapon” (which is- after all— anything used in an assault- samurai sword, Bowie Knife, stilletto, numchuks, brass knuckles, etc.).
