I wish I bring myself to believe that. TexMex people are surprisingly mushy, especially towards authority figures who are ‘one of us’.
No they won’t and you don’t know what it is like in the Neches Strip today. The TexMex people are caught in a culture bind. The crime pouring over the border terrifies them but they can’t be disloyal to La Raza and help the evil Gringos, so they try to armor up and do a general Sgt Shultz act. The result is a regional ostrich act.
There were plenty of men and women willing to go in but the scumbag cops on the scene prevented them.
I can’t believe what a bunch of gutless cowards the people of Uvalde are. Not only have they not run this POS out of town, but very few even showed up for the school board meeting.
The Parkland board and sheriff had a similar love affair.
This same school board COULD allow teachers to carry firearms, if they wished to do so. They have not. They are also to blame for the tragedy. Oddly, I have seen no mention of this, anywhere.
I have no idea how many school districts in Texas allow teachers to concealed carry but I hope more of them will, after this. It’s probably more common in small, isolated schools where NO law enforcement may be readily available in case of an active shooter. There are lots more where it might take 15 minutes or more to get more than a couple of officers on scene and upwards of 30 minutes to get a SWAT team.
School superintendents and local law enforcement should take the lead in pushing their school boards to implement these programs. Schools where this is done require training and approval before teachers are allowed to carry. I don’t know if non-teachers can participate but they should. A secretary, custodian, or lunch lady may have the first and best opportunity to stop a shooter.

The teacher that left the door open, the policeman who was AWOL from his job and the school police chief should have all been indicted for manslaughter.
