The media tries to make this look equitable for the headline. But Depp won bigly.

This is precisely what happens with "no-fault" divorce, where the one behaves badly and the other gets dumped, but there is no justice for the abused and dumped spouse; in many cases, they are punished and told, "Well, you married (him, her)," even if there was blatant fraud committed to secure the marriage partner, or another person on the side from the get-go, an undisclosed severe illness, a homosexual trying to pass, etc.

I sincerely hope this case puts another nail in the "no-fault" coffin.

America’s swirling the toilet and we’re talking about trailer trash?

America’s swirling the toilet and you took the time to post on a thread about trailer trash?

If someone ever said anything about me that caused me to lose my job and be unemployable that would be between me and the accuser not the the entire world and endless news coverage.

So, tell us, how would you settle the matter, if someone said something about you in the New York Times, as she did about him?

I personally know a millionaire many times over, that is living this nightmare.

Trust me, the system is much worse for the schlub making $60,000 a year with two or three kids.

He’s best known for “Rum Diary”?

I think Rum Diary is the movie in which the two of them met, which has been mentioned often in news coverage, and this reporter just blindly repeated the name of the movie instead of looking up the grosses of his other films. Without a doubt, he is best known for the Pirates franchise; but there are many other films far more noteworthy than Rum Diary.

One of the other posters above pointed out that the $2M to Heard must be paid by his agent. So that nets Depp $10,350,000—not $13M as many of the above posts erred in claiming.

The NY Times is a liberal newspaper. They print lies and their editorials are full of personal opinion and lies so again I could care less.

Apparently you’re a huge Johnny Depp supporter and that’s what’s driving you.

Why should I care anything about him, her or this trial? What is the great revelation about this trial that will affect me and countless other lives?

can you explain that further? I don’t think I understand what you mean.

The headline tried to make them sound equally guilty, when in fact, only Amber and Depp's agent were at fault.

Part of the sexual politics in divorce court has been that the "no-fault" system of divorce put in play since the 1970s literally does not consider that one partner may have done greatly more wrong than the other, wrecking the marriage. No-fault just divides the property and child custody more or less in half, as if both were equally to blame, and equally able to recover financially and socially.

When this happens, if there was one partner who clearly did not uphold any effort to make the marriage work, abused his or her spouse or abused the system, clearly broke the norms of marriage, or defrauded the sincere spouse, that person not only gets away with half of everything, he or she often can cause lasting damage to the other party's life because "no-fault" gives the wrongdoer artificially inflated power to control the ex-spouse, jerk the children around, and make patently false claims to bully the ex and further reduce their access to their kids or their reputation in the community.

Just as the first phase of "no-fault" divorce legislation 1970-2005 harmed mostly the women who stayed home with kids but whose husbands left them and then sued for custody (to have their kids raised by his other woman or his gay lover, further impoverishing the stay-at-home mother who can less afford lawyer fees), lawyers are now taking advantage of the MeToo movement—"Believe All Women!"—to destroy fathers' lives, to make outrageous demands, and to excuse unfaithful or self-centered, rejecting wives from all responsibility to tell the truth and treat their ex fairly.

The recent women's empowerment and MeToo movements, while they may have started with a grain of good intentions, have been used by lawyers and too many women for corrupt purposes, and have become primarily vehicles of hate, to harm men.

It was therefore refreshing to see that the jury rejected Heard's lies and extortlon of her ex-husband. I hope a lot of divorce judges are paying attention.

If this explanation was not the point you were after, ask me more specifically.

Nothing will affect you. All is well. If you don’t understand a thing, it doesn’t exist. It’s not necessary to read the thread and consider other opinions; only yours matters. Shut out all contradictory evidence and all will be well. Nothing bad can ever happen to you. No one whose life experience or point of view differs from yours has any wisdom to offer you. Okay?

Albion, I’m sure it is.

I’m a woman and I am certain men are abused more often than we realize.

I’m so glad Depp’s nightmare came out. It must have been humiliating. I hope it makes it easier for other men to be be believed.

It's greatly to be hoped that he seizes this humiliation to become prudent with his money and relationships, and sober for the sake of his health and his children . He's another star who came up from his mid-20s never again knowing what it is not to have money and fame, although his testimony about his childhood revealed he saw it first hand growing up. Hope he gets himself grounded. Saved, even!

Yes, men can really get the short end, too; but there are no winners in divorce. I am in favor of all engaged couples spending a long engagement going to marriage preparation and parenting classes for at least a year.
