So much for the good guy with a gun.
That, you will recall, was NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre’s preferred solution to America’s epidemic of firearms violence. “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun,” he said, “is a good guy with a gun.” He said this on Dec. 21, 2012 — one week after the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School that left dead six adults and 20 children ages 6 and 7.
Americans were grieving and demanding action, and this was his answer. The “good guy with a gun” would set things right.
To no one’s surprise, it hasn’t turned out that way. The latest example can be found in Uvalde, Texas — where two adults and 19 children were slaughtered last week at Robb Elementary School while police waited under orders from their incident commander for 78 minutes before engaging the shooter. The good guy with a gun — actually, “guys,” plural, “guns,” plural — dawdled while people died. Police initially concealed this bungling by releasing false and misleading information about the siege.

However, good guys with guns do not stand there with their thumbs up their asses while children are being killed.
It’s outrageous, their inaction.
I fail to see this person’s logic. Because police did nothing in the instances he cites, Mr. Pitts says this is how faulty the “good guy with a gun” premise is. I am sure in a head to head debate, Professor Lott would easily take him apart.
Words have meanings, those 19 that did nothing are not good guys with guns. The BP agent that rushed in was.
Door left open
School Security Officer AWOL (never engaged perp)
Police stand down for nearly an hour while shooter has free reign
There was no “good guy with gun” only people missing in action and cowards.
I recall back in December 1989, when Gamil Gharbi went on his bloody rampage at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal, the good guys with guns (the Montreal police) did not enter the computer sciences building until some ten minutes after Gharbi had taken his own life and that the Montreal 911 centre did not even give them accurate address information.
These were just guys with guns..not good guys with guns.
The author's logic is lacking.
Wasn’t there just another shooting, stopped cold with only the shooter dead, by a good woman with a gun?
Security is like that. You only see it when you don’t have it.
The author is an idiot, in any event. There was only one good guy with a gun, in Ulvade, and he had to get past everyone else.
Schools also need to be redesigned. Back to “duck and cover” with interlocking desks that can form barricades in the corners. More doors out of the room. If you care at all about the children, you shouldn’t give a rip, what the “teacher” wants.
Hey Leonard, Who Border Patrol Agent Jacob Albarado if not a “Good guy with a (borrowed) gun”?
Hey Leonard, Pitts off.
This particular person is known for having no logic.
It is because this person's preferred solution is to ban all private ownership of guns, starting with the 'scary' ones like AR15s.
Words have meanings, those 19 that did nothing are not good guys with guns. The BP agent that rushed in was.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Real “Good Guys” are not cowards.
LOL..
Leonard failed to mention that it actually WAS a good guy with a gun that went into the school and took out the shooter.
What a POS Lefty whining POS Leonard is...
Leonard Pitts is one of the newspaper columnist group I refer to as EANs - Endlessly Angry Negroes.
The one good guy with a gun from the BORTAC killed the shooter. Facts stink.
Was he being chased, by police, when he wrecked?
Was he rammed by police and then wreck?
If so, how did he manage to pull a rifle out of the truck, walk to the school, shoot at people from the funeral home and enter an unlocked door at the school, with no police interference?
Who is “Armand”?
hasn’t turned out that way?
What stopped the shooter? A man with a banana?
