The notable nonagenerians offer dueling visions of world order at the World Economic Forum.
Two American immigrants, both survivors of life under Nazi rule still making waves in their nineties, set the terms of debate at the World Economic Forum. Henry Kissinger, who celebrates his 99th birthday this week, made a virtual appearance to urge against attempts to defeat or marginalize Russia, calling on Ukraine to accept the territorial losses of 2014 to end the war. A few hours later, George Soros, in person at the forum at age 91, warned that victory in the war against Vladimir Putin’s Russia was necessary to “save civilization” and urged the West to provide Ukraine with everything it needs to prevail.
Their prescriptions are radically different, but their perceptions have much in common. Both men believe that American values and interests make the defense of peace in Europe a primary goal of American foreign policy. Both see themselves as defenders of what is best in Western civilization. Both see the war as a major shock to the world system and fear the consequences of a long military struggle. Messrs. Kissinger and Soros both believe that Russia is ultimately a secondary problem for American policy, and that the future of U.S.-China relations is of much greater significance in the long run.

Soros as a “survivor of life under Nazi rule”? Strains credulity.
How come these two super old farts are still alive???
He’s a nazi war criminal. He ought to be treated as such.
Yeah
George Soros
He”s a real humanitarian.
Hahahahahahahahaha!
If it goes to nuclear weapons, should we really fear China more than Russia?
Maybe Russia can nuke the WEF and Davos when the most GOSOs are there. I’m ok with that. We might be 1000 private jets short for a while but think of all those carbon credits saved. Night equal a single 1 megaton nuke. Is that wrong to think that way?
GOSO = GlObol SOcialists. That’s what I’m calling them. They can get fancy uniforms with GS on the labels.
“the defense of peace in Europe”
Is none of our business.
We’re
Broke
Kapo Soros: “ The UnitedStates is the greatest obstacle “
Kyiv lacked firm control of eastern Ukraine and can’t make a deal along Kissinger’s line that the Russians will go for.
What the Russians currently want is to control the fossil fuels spigots of eastern Ukraine so the people the Russians call neo-Nazis will not attack Russians.
The Russians know how to make concrete bunkers.
The Russians could just decide to wait out Joe Biden.
One’s an old fool, sold out So. Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
The other is a very rich WW2 KAPO turned neo-MARXIST megalomaniac a la James Bond villain.
Who says you can’t have both types selling out freedom at the same time??
Regarding nuclear weapon, Russia and China have a great many, but at the time if looked as if India and Pakistan might slaunch theirs, they only had about 50 each. Analysts concluded if they launched theirs, it would be enough to destroy civilization as we know it, and produce a nasty nuclear winter. A nuclear winter would be harder on Russia and China than it would be on us, but billions would still die world wide. And that’s for countries not hit by bombs. Then, there is also radiation to consider. We should all be afraid, very afraid, everywhere.
Russians just like to say such things. Khrushchev might have smugly shouted “We will bury you!”, but it is his evil empire that went to the garbage bin of history.
Its perfectly legit to question Kissinger’s morality.
But Kissinger is smart and he is very competent in international diplomacy and foreign policy.
Soros? He’s a greedy, controlling Leftist Globalist. There’s no reason to think he’s even remotely competent as a strategist in international diplomacy or foreign policy.
>”New York Times and the Washington Post”
I think I am rather well informed without having ever had to read what the NYT or WP says. The staff writers there are only good for writing another “black queer lesbians are the biggest victims of war” stories anyway.
I did read and appreciate the NYT-published guest essay by Stephen Kotkin, but that was because of the quality of Kotkin not the “quality” of the NYT staff.
You’ve reminded me I haven’t put my eyes on my KI in the prepper closet. I should do that.
