Three ways Democrats helped foil Trump in Georgia last night

I don’t mean to minimize a big win for sane Republicans by sharing credit for it with Democrats. Brian Kemp and especially Brad Raffensperger prevailing without runoffs is the most encouraging thing to happen in GOP elections since…

I can’t even think of the last encouraging thing. Sometime in the Before Times.

Anyone inclined to cite last night as proof that Trump is losing his grip on the party, though, should bear in the mind that we have yet to see a truly anti-Trump Republican win anywhere this year. Raffensperger himself is the closest thing, but even Raffensperger won’t rule out voting for Trump in 2024 despite the many death threats his family received amid Trump’s “stop the steal” insanity. Trump’s hold on Republican primary voters remains so strong that Charlie Baker, who boasts the highest approval rating of any governor in America, declined to run for a third term this year in Massachusetts because he suspected he couldn’t win the GOP primary.

Meditate on that. In a state where Baker is the only Republican who could plausibly win, primary voters there would have turned him out of his office because he’d committed the sin of criticizing Trump in the past.

I think it’s fair to conclude from last night’s results that Republican voters in Georgia no longer regard failing the “rigged election” litmus test as disqualifying for a GOP politician provided that that politician has a strong conservative record and hasn’t otherwise antagonized Trump. That’s how Kemp won. And Raffensperger probably sneaked through on the strength of Kemp’s support plus the fact that his challenger, Jody Hice, reportedly ran a miserable campaign.

They should be extatic...but they're not.

They're clinging to what straws they can, and patting themselves on the back that some of their tricks worked.

But deep inside, they realize that the Republican electorate is lost to them, that without the tricks they'd be out on the street.

And these types of victories will be fewer and fewer.

There's always another election coming. And elephants always remember.

They finally get down to #3 before admitting Democrats probably pushed Ratburger over the finish line.

and yes, Perdue was a really terrible candidate.

I think Perdue just jumped in early to crowd out any competitors. I never saw an ad for him.

Trump made a mistake by not supporting Kemp when he opened up the state. Kemp never forgave him.

The notorious ALLAHPUNDIT strikes again.
The Democrats didnt win anything last night. They lost.
Kemp won because he ended lockdowns very early, despite abuse and threats from the Dems and fake news media.
And Kemp WILL win in November.

He’s in charge of elections. Did you think he wasn’t going to get himself reelected?

Kemp is a conservative Republican, and people here (and Trump himself) were rooting him on hard in the 2018 GA GOP primary:

Even now, I still don't fathom what people wanted him to do, what they're so angry about. He didn't "stop the steal"? What? People know Georgia wasn't the deciding state, right? You'd think it was like Florida 2000-level close with this talk.

I hope Liz Cheney loses in August for sure, but I feel content that Kemp won. He's probably Georgia's best 21st century Governor, certainly better than Nathan Deal and Sonny Perdue.

Folks know Trump was robbed.

They know the nation was robbed.

Look how he left us, and look at it today.

Folks aren’t looking for anyone else right now.

Trump for four more, and DeSantis for eight.

I want Florida stable, and DeSantis is the best be there.

We let that state slip away, and we’re in a world of hurt.

“Even now, I still don’t fathom what people wanted him to do, what they’re so angry about. He didn’t “stop the steal”?”

After the shenanigans on November third (fake water leak, dropboxes, etc), he did NOTHING to make the runoffs in January more secure.

Also, his loser appointment, Kelly Loeffler, lost TWICE, because he listened to McConnell in the appointment, just as Ducey listened to McConnell on McSally, who ALSO lost twice.

He’s only been conservative because of the pressure of getting renominated/reelected.

He was good on leading on getting rid of Covid lockdowns.

Oh, and another thing. He was among the five governors to shut down counting on election night, which has NEVER happened in American history. Just how was that coordinated? And why? (well we know why)

Kemp has demonstrated himself to be a lackluster, Establishment schill.

Ok fine but that treasonous rat mole SOS really needed to go. I see very little chance the GOP wins GA in 24 with that bastard there.

From your linked article......

@ZacMcCrary

Was getting pre-election reports in GA that ~10% of “likely” Dem voters were pulling GOP ballot instead to stick it to Trump & vote Kemp/Raffensperger. Can put numbers to it soon but clearly D crossover helped embarass Perdue & seems to have pulled Raffensperger across 50% mark.

@ZacMcCrary

If indeed D turnout appears sluggish, this is at least part of the reason.
