North Dakota here, where wheat is a major crop. Still too wet in the majority of fields to plant. Likely to be a short season with reduced acreage and productivity. Our own domestic production is projected to be under average.
Lots of the guys were switching to short oats. 60 day duration. Its got even to late for that.
You can plant them late, but the production rate drops.
The good thing about those is that it takes very little additives to the soil to grow them and if they dont produce well, but at least come up, its a good cover crop. It can be chopped off for beef cattle feed.
