Food Supply Protectionism is Rapidly Spreading as Global Organizations Like The IMF Warn of Consequences

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is continuing to send warnings with increased urgency about the very real possibility of widespread food shortages in regions where food instability is a historic issue.

“The war in Ukraine has triggered a sharp increase in energy and food prices that could undermine food security in the region, raise poverty rates, worsen income inequality, and possibly lead to social unrest,” the Fund said in its annual Regional Outlook for Africa.”

WASHINGTON — Ukraine has limited exports of sunflower oil, wheat, oats and cattle in an attempt to protect its war-torn economy. Russia has banned sales of fertilizer, sugar and grains to other nations.

Indonesia, which produces more than half the world’s palm oil, has halted outgoing shipments. Turkey has stopped exports of butter, beef, lamb, goats, maize and vegetable oils.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has unleashed a new wave of protectionism as governments, desperate to secure food and other commodities for their citizens amid shortages and rising prices, erect new barriers to stop exports at their borders.

[…] Export restrictions are making grains, oils, meat and fertilizer — already at record prices — more expensive and even harder to come by. That is placing an even greater burden on the world’s poor, who are paying an ever-larger share of their income for food, increasing the risk of social unrest in poorer countries struggling with food insecurity.

Since the beginning of the year, countries have imposed a total of 47 export curbs on food and fertilizers — with 43 of those put in place since the invasion of Ukraine in late February, according to tracking by Simon Evenett, a professor of international trade and economic development at the University of St. Gallen.

There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear....

During the Trump Administration, the Democrats were hoping for the economy to crash, in order that it would hurt Trump.

Let's not put ourselves in the same category of these scumbags.

I wish for the economy to make a speedy recovery, as well as MAGA-GOP taking control of Congress later this year and for Trump to win his third term in 2024.

When I was 20, a gallon of gas at the corner station was $.19.9. That nineteen point nine CENTS. Wanna tell me more about inflation?

They will pull some stunt like BLS did right before Reagan wiped the floor with the incompetent Carter. It will report two days before the election that the latest CPI figures for the preceding month were 0.0. No one believed it then, no one will believe it now.

Still trying to sell the “transitory” lie.

Producer Prices rose faster than Consumer Prices. That means price increases are still coming for consumers.

Historically, stock prices fall under full employment. High unemployment creates higher risk tolerance and government intervention. Higher interest rates, will curtail all the free money the r's and d's have been wasting. The misery in Ukraine, and China covid follies will pass. The fall in inflation will take people by surprise.

The more money the fed has, helps to create the dumpster fire of sell offs. Thus reducing the impact on prices.

However, there is certainly a sea change in work, especially for younger employees. The driving forces ahead will be boomers dying off, and the ramifications of their inheritances to the younger generations. The younger generations need for toys, ie rv's, boats, 2nd and 3rd homes will part of the narrative's.

Once prices start to slow their increase year over year the dems will claim their policies are working and they are controlling inflation. Ignoring the fact that unless there is real wage growth over that period we are at the same pain level.

Look for them to dust off Jimmy Carter's misery index so they can show us how things are improving. They will do this to avoid talking about recession and higher unemployment which will becoming. The Fed has never been able to engineer a soft landing.

All across the land, spontaneous demonstrations erupted as party workers poured into the streets to celebrate the over-fulfillment of the ninth 3-year-plan.

The Disinformation Department is out in full force today. The NYT’s has an article today about how much better rural American is doing under Biden.

“Biden Has Already Done More for Rural America Than Trump Ever Did”

I didn’t bother to add a link. It’s behind a paywall and anyway, if you read it your blood pressure would just go up.

CNN is delusional.

Same reason CNN+ failed. CNN planned for the best and hid form reality.

Biden’s plan is to flood the country with illegals allowing illegals to work under the table to drive down wages.

Then Biden will raise interest rates to bring the country into a recession or depression... so yeah some of that stuff might work... but the cure could be worse than the disease.

Everyone at cnn is a demonic liar.

Except for the most volatile commodities, the RATE of inflation may decline, but prices will not. Prices actually declining would be deflation and general deflation doesn’t appear to be on the horizon.

Ah! But “especially volatile “ food, fuel, and housing costs have been “excluded” from the government’s latest inflation index since Clinton’s mid-1990s regime!
