Manchin slammed the Biden administration’s lofty electric vehicle (EV) plans as “ludicrous,” saying the U.S. should first address root issues.
Manchin expressed concerns that the administration was focusing too much on electric vehicle incentives rather than shoring up the domestic battery and critical mineral supply chains, during a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on Thursday. He noted that China, which controls the vast majority of global critical mineral mining and refining needed for renewable energy tech, could use its leverage over the U.S. for geopolitical reasons.
“There’s a waiting list for EVs right now with the fuel price at $4,” Manchin told Buttigieg. “But they still want us to throw $5,000 or $7,000 or $12,000 credit to buy an electric vehicle.” (RELATED: Ford Reports Devastating Losses Thanks To Electric Vehicle Gamble)
“It makes no sense to me whatsoever when supply and demand — we can’t produce the product for the people who want it and we’re still going to pay them to take it? It’s absolutely ludicrous in my mind,” he continued. “But I’m thinking we are getting ourselves tangled in a situation that we’re not going to be able to supply … everything that’s going to be needed for this product.”
The West Virginia lawmaker then asked Buttigieg if the Department of Transportation shared his concerns about EV shortages and credits..
Keep going Joe, you may actually turn in to a conservative one day.......but I doubt it.
Just a temporary detour.

Manchin just doesn’t get it, does he? What planet is he living on? There’s no place for facts, logic and common sense in today’s Dem party. It’s all about finding the most woke, most green positions and sticking to them, hell or high water.

Manchin is better than 90% of Republican “conservatives”. You might want to re-word that and give the man a little credit.
Buttigieg reminds me of my troop’s homosexual scoutmaster many moons ago.
Paris suspends public transportation use of ev due to fires

That’s really some very nasty pollution. But it’s an EV so no big deal.
That’s just one of the problems with EVs. They had better do something about our electrical grid before they even consider any large amount of EVs on the road. Manchin seems to be using his head about this while Biden & Buttiegieg are known losers.
manchin made some good points
but exposing the global warming hoax for the fraud that it is, is better
Anything to help China....
Where are all the new nuclear power plant startups required to support a wholesale conversion to EVs? Most consumer owned EVs will be recharged overnight when solar and wind power aren’t supplying much (if any) electricity to the grid. If not nuclear then natural gas fueled power plants will be required, but that would mean encouraging more fracking and approving gas pipelines, an anathema to the Greens in the administration. It would also help to approve mining rare earth minerals in Nevada, but that won’t happen soon (if at all). They just want everyone to move to the crime infested hellholes that are our major cities, into tiny apartments and use mass transit. Enjoy the soylent green, proles!
A little common sense, exposed, goes a long way. In addition to opening up more mining in the USA, how about manufacturing of medicines, and other textiles that the Chicomms sell to us?
Electric vehicles - An idea so good that they have to be mandated and subsidized.
Also you have to use fossil fuels to get the raw materials out of the ground and through the supply chain to build the vehicle in a factory that’s powered by fossil fuels as well. Total, giant scam.
Well electric makes for a good golf cart!
Caterpillar and Komatsu would be big winners if this continues, I believe. (earthmoving/mining equip)
