Russia has sown the seeds of it’s own collapse. It’s a question of when, not if. So, when the collapse comes, the US will have to collect and contain their nuclear weapons because we are the only ones who can.
Imagine if Iran had nukes, or for that matter north Korea had nukes.....

You think 6k nukes are just nicely sitting in a warehouse? We couldn’t effectively evacuate Afghanistan and you believe we can go to the largest (land area) nation in the world, while they’re in a state of collapse, and corral 6k nukes?
You think we have no idea where they are and no way to gain further information? We've been watching them for over 50 years. Where do you think our missiles are pointed. And when the time comes, and it will, we won't have much of a choice anyway.

Knowing where they are has virtually nothing to do with it. It’s about logistics. Seizing 6k nukes spread throughout Russia would be the largest military operation in the history of the world. Are you aware of what it takes to transport a single nuke? Slim all that down to the minimally viable procedures and what you’re suggesting would require hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of boots on the ground. It’s so unwieldy and undoable it’s not even worth unpacking. Not to mention, you assume they would let you, which they wouldn’t.
Best thing you could do is try to secure them in place, which would also require hundreds of thousands of troops at a minimum, likely far more.
Russia has pretty much proven itself incapable of being responsible with their military. The UN should treat them like they did South Africa and their nukes.

Russia will collapse as a functioning country. They will lose control. It’s going to happen. Containing those weapons will require what it will require. We are probably talking about the largest coordinated military action since WWII.

Yup. This might not turn out how anyone would like. Let’s posit a scenario; Russia start arming enemies of the west with nuclear weapons and delivery systems all of Home will be waiting for their opportunity to strike back at the biggest bully on the block United States
