In the weeks between the 2020 election and the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, almost 100 text messages from two staunch GOP allies of then-President Donald Trump reveal an aggressive attempt to lobby, encourage and eventually warn the White House over its efforts to overturn the election, according to messages obtained by the House select committee and reviewed by CNN.
The texts, which have not been previously reported, were sent by Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah and GOP Rep. Chip Roy of Texas to then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. The text exchanges show that both members of Congress initially supported legal challenges to the election but ultimately came to sour on the effort and the tactics deployed by Trump and his team.
. . . .
When situated in the overall timeline of events between the election and January 6, the series of texts from Lee and Roy provide new details about how two Trump allies went from fierce advocates of the former President's push to overturn Joe Biden's win to disheartened bystanders. By January 3, Lee was texting Meadows that the effort "could all backfire badly."

It took 4 IDIOTS to write this,
Proof that the sole purpose of this committee is opposition research for upcoming elections!
I love it, they steal the election and then complain about the people looking into it.
4 Idiots
One for consenants..
One for vowels.
One for capitolisation.
One for punctuation.
Need one more for spelling (see above).
We all know the Democrats never question the results when a Republican wins.
Excellent point.
This is a nothing burger
Not to mention that trying to prove fraud seems to be seen by cnn as some kind of illegal venture. I bet if someone libeled or stole something from cnn they would be going all out bringing their legal teams on it like maggots to rotting steak.
Written by a committee.
Just compare January 20, 2017 to January 6, 2021.
In the former instance the Democrats and deep state were so very understanding that they may as well have given them a cookie, warm milk and a pat on the head.
Difference between 2020 and 2016 (Hillary camp)? 2016 was when the Donkeys realized that their previous cheat scheme(s) were insufficient! They could not scream out because they would just expose THEMSELVES!
Instead, they doubled down on Russia, got that Swamp Creature of Jeff Sessions to recuse himself and let the Senate & House Rhinos (Paul Ryan in particular) surrender the narrative to the Donkey & Enemedia opponents. From the git-go, Trump was under fire, had poor choices for his Cabinet and complete antagonism from the Washington Nomenklatura.
Then in 2020, the Donkey Party took full advantage of their home fields (apparatus & judges), COVID [Ha] rules for public ballot boxes (easy dumping), voting by mail and other tried & true methods. In other words, they brought their ‘A’ Game and overwhelmed the system! My opinion is that Trump lost rather than Biden won and these shenanigans were the winning margin!
As for this story from CNN, the very exemplars of the Enemedia? Where is the beef? What was the crime?
They can’t let this go, death embrace
I don’t see any problem here.
We all wanted examples as in “ammo” of fraud.
There was fraud.
I hope these two congressmen double down.
Where you come from it takes only 3? Wow!
Of course some GOP’s were warning. They’d already been promised a check to stand down from their constitutional duty.
What’s the problem?
The election SHOULD HAVE BEEN overturned.
What are you saying, Newbie?? 666....REALLY?? hmmmmm
Indeed it wasn’t an election it was an act of theft.
Four idiots from CNN.
The company who promoted Ross Perot as a 3rd party to get Clinton elected.
That CNN
Tactics used were not "nice" enough?
