Russia has reportedly lost its fortieth high-ranking military officer since the start of the war in Ukraine.
Lieutenant Colonel Denis Mezhuev was killed on the frontline, local reports said.
Mezhuev commanded the Sevastopol Red Banner regiment under the 1st guards motor rifle division, which moved from Kyiv to the battle-scarred east in recent days.

Ukraine says Russia has now lost a total of seven generals and 33 colonels
The scale of the high ranking death toll defies Vladimir Putin’s claim that his “special military operation” is going according to plan.

Imagine that - colonels and generals fighting at the front lines in a war.

I’m not sure what believe but I wonder if, knowing Putin might be making a wholesale replacement, if junior officers are fragging senior officers to clear the road for promotion.

Russia continues to bleed out badly. They can’t win, they can only exit with their tails between their legs, badly wounded.

I guess this has turned into such a clusterfuck that these REMF's have to go see for themselves what's happening.
Then the AI / Face recognition takes over and poof you have Colonel Stew and General Goulash.
I guess these guys should wear masks when they are near windows or outdoors, but not these.

1st Guards Motor Rifle Division is certainly in the “first team” category of Russian units.

Could have been avoided if Russia had assasinated Zelensky before the invasion.
It would have saved a lot of lives — on both sides.

They have been putting themselves in the line of fire since day 1 of this thing. In a way it is an admirable social imperative, to go fearlessly where the bullets are flying, to lead from the front. Its magnificent, really. But it isn’t war.

More like enlisted are fragging the senior officers.

Appears that Putin isn’t a very good Stratego player. Loses too many high-rank pieces.

They tried, apparently.
It would have saved lives, but imposed a foreign tyrrany.
The minutemen of 1775 also could have desisted, and saved many lives.
