A Manor Independent School District teacher was arrested Tuesday after the district said they [sic] were seen hitting a student “several times.”...

The district said a student was trying to enter the building through a doorway, when a teacher stopped the student from coming in. The teacher tried to tell the student to use another door, but the student refused and pushed past the teacher.

That’s when the teacher “was then observed striking the scholar several times,” the district said.

Who are "they". It starts out in the first person then switches. Reporter you get a big 'F' in writing at the 2nd grade level.

Reporter just being 'woke' by using the gender neutral pronoun...in place of proper grammar. Get used to it I s'pose.

I agree. At best this was a pupil. I’d like to know the back story, though.

When I was coaching HS baseball, I was consulting with the kid in the on-deck circle. The umpire said “Hey coach, let’s get your next hitter up here!”

I said, “Correction, Blue; I’m sending the next batter; we’ll see if he’s a hitter or not.”

“It starts out in the first person then switches.”

I think you mean “singular” rather than “first person”.

Well actually:

—used with a singular indefinite pronoun antecedent
No one has to go if they don't want to.
Everyone knew where they stood …— E. L. Doctorow

b —used with a singular antecedent to refer to an unknown or unspecified person
An employee with a grievance can file a complaint if they need to.
The person who answered the phone said they didn't know where she was.

c —used to refer to a single person whose gender is intentionally not revealed
A student was found with a knife and a BB gun in their backpack Monday, district spokeswoman Renee Murphy confirmed. The student, whose name has not been released, will be disciplined according to district policies, Murphy said. They also face charges from outside law enforcement, she said.— Olivia Krauth

And of course the new made up meaning:

d —used to refer to a single person whose gender identity is nonbinary (see nonbinary sense c)
I knew certain things about … the person I was interviewing.… They had adopted their gender-neutral name a few years ago, when they began to consciously identify as nonbinary—that is, neither male nor female. They were in their late 20s, working as an event planner, applying to graduate school.

Since they, the news outlet, did not provide the video that that they said exists, it's is unclear if the person writing this article has or has not seen the video, and therefore does not know the sex of the "scholar" 🙂 or the teacher.

It doesn’t mention it but most schools control access to the building over safety concerns. Certain doors have metal detectors or have a school district police officer standing by to check on those who enter.
They take these measures seriously as most school shootings
were caused by lax security or inattentive officers.

If the teacher was in the right about pointing out the proper entry point then the school district police officer needs to be arrested instead or at least looking for another job.

He should have punched him more — with no charges. And his parents (parent?) should have treated the teacher to dinner.

Makes you wonder why the writer of the article didn't make the leap to, "warrior-poet."

Reporter you get a big 'F' in writing at the 2nd grade level.

And to think they actually get paid to write this barely literate newspeak garbage.

This must be the adult version of a participation trophy.

I assumed “scholar” was blatant sarcasm. If not, I guess unintended comedy happens.
