John Lennon had notoriously bad eyesight, and as a youth, despised the wire-rim glasses that were standard issue with the National Health.
He begged his Aunt Mimi for the more expensive hornrim glasses sported by John’s idol, Buddy Holly.
Years later, he adopted the famous wire-rim “Granny Glasses” that became his trademark.
The Khmer Rouge considered eyeglasses to be the matk of the counter-revolutionary “intellectual” and, in one purge, killed everyone they found wearing eyeglasses.
Imagine that.
John Lennon also donated money for a purchase of protective vests for the New York Police Department. I believe he was on the road to refuting the lyrics of IMAGINE.
