“in Russia... Belief that the consequences of the Ukraine invasion is a matter of only a few months is predominant.”

That sounds plausible, and is probably a politically safe opinion to express. It also is comforting, and what people want to hear. Its what has generally happened before, when they invaded, including the last time into the Ukraine.

It is also pretty much what I would have expected as well, before this broke out. Who expected Germany, especially headed by student disarmament protest leader Olaf Scholz, to suddenly start shipping lethal weaponry into a conflict zone, for the first time since WWII?

Ukrainian and Western resolve widely exceeded expectations. Anti-tank missiles and drones really changed the game since 2014. A lot of adaptation occurred in the Ukraine and the West since 2014. It is a very different war on the ground, and the scale of Russian losses has probably not been widely recognized yet. Losing territory on the battlefield however, is likely already (recently) known among the Russian, and is sure to create doubts. Attitudes will likely start shifting through the second month, as the coffins come home, the Russians lose terrain, and prospect of the newly discussed estimate (in the Duma) to wrap up the Operation by the 9th of May (WWII Victory Day) starts slipping away.

If the Ukrainians hold firm in negotiations to not give up territory, and the West keeps arming and supporting them, this will drag out, and with it will be the sanctions. Russia could well be in for an epic strategic defeat, if the West holds firm.

Putin’s personality is to double down and increase the stakes, so the costs could mount all around. I think Russia will end up paying a higher price than most Russians seem to think, but time will tell.

Olaf is a puppet. He doesn’t care about the interests of his people any more than he cares to be a good globalist. I don’t see his Germany as any different than Ukraine at this point. Both need to be put down.

What choice do the Russian people have? Not like they can pull off the s**t there that’s pulled off here in terms of protests, etc.

That said, the sanctions are working out really well, huh?
