Trump says he's uninterested in being Speaker if GOP retakes House
The Hill ^ | Mar 29, 2022 | Caroline Vakil

Former President Trump said he was not interested in becoming the Speaker if Republicans retake the House in the 2022 midterm elections.

"No, I think that it's not something I wanted. A lot of people bring it up. It's brought up all the time. No, it's not something I want to do. I want to look at what's happening, and then we're going to be doing something else. No, it's not something I would be interested in," Trump said during an interview with John Solomon and Amanda Head of Just the News on Tuesday. Solomon is a former employee of The Hill.

Trump's remarks came after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) said during a Trump rally in Commerce, Ga., on Saturday that he would nominate the former president to be Speaker of the House if Republicans win back the lower chamber.

"Give us the ability to fire Nancy Pelosi, take back the majority, impeach Joe Biden, and I'm going to nominate Donald Trump for Speaker of the United States House of Representatives," the Florida Republican said, leading to a round of applause.

While I think it would be fun to have Trump as speaker I agree with him that he should not want it. It would tie him down to one place having to be at congress most of the time negotiating with all those parasites.

He is more effective being free wheeling like he is.

I disagree.

I totally think that McCarthy should continue in all his roles as speaker.

However, all the ceremonial roles should go to Trump.

Every freaking republican in the country wants to see Trump sitting behind Biden during Biden’s state of the union address.

There’s one other thing.

The speaker is third in line behind the veep if there is trouble in the white house.

who the heck knows if biden can survive the next three years.

C’mon, Big Don! It would be worth it just to watch Nancy’s face melt as she passed you the gavel!

As much as I would like to see it happen, it is strategically the wrong move for him.

But Gaetz is free to nominate him. LOL. I think just even the threat of it is a fun disruption to the status quo.

But we have to keep in mind when we take back the house/senate those creepy old democrats are still there. Remember, fish stinks from the head and until those fishes are gone, dead, and buried we have a formidable foe. I say this that way, because their constituents will never vote them out of office and they never retire from their evil works. They are not about to let their dreams slip through their fingers like sand on the beach.

Cleaning up the democrat party is a job for democrats, if they ever truly become awake to the wokeism, that destroys their lives.

In the meantime we cannot allow the light of freedom or liberty to be extinguished.

I don't think he can. Both of my parents died from aging dementia. That necessitated moving them to a care facility. The owner of the facility said that the average stay was three years, ending in death. This was true for both of them. They were completely incapable of any cognitive task for most of the time there. Biden is about at the point they were when they went in. Biden's true state is being covered up by drugs and around the clock support.

Can’t blame him. The time would be better spent running for president in 2024.

Nobody with an ounce of real leadership in his body would ever want a job where you answer to a group of 435 people like the House Speaker does. These people are invariably misfits and losers who make a career out of selling themselves out to others.

If nothing else, it would give Trump a platform. He would no longer be incommunicado as far as 90% of American voters are concerned. I have less and less confidence in Truth Social getting off the ground and being able to survive DC regulators and TROs from hack federal judges.

I had been all in favor of PDJT becoming Speaker, especially just to see Crazy Nancy have to hand over the gavel, I’ve now realized it would be too untenable for him.

The momentary glee over witnessing her meltdown wouldn’t be worth it if he also had to suffer through sitting behind Brandon during at least one SOTU. Too much to tolerate indeed

He’s President, why take a demotion.

disagree about McCarthy. He’s not trustworthy according to many online. Would much rather see an America First politician take the speaker role. After yesterday Matt Gaetz even seems appealing.

Have you seen clips of her incoherent ramblings lately? Dr. Steve Turley has been posting them on YouTube. She’s losing it. Maybe she’s about used up Satan’s shelf life.

The speaker is third in line behind the veep if there is trouble in the white house.

The Speaker of the House would ascend to the Presidency only if both the President and Vice-President were to become unable to serve before the ascended V.P. had nominated a new V.P. and that new V.P. had been confirmed by the House and Senate - so-called DOUBLE VACANCY.

Thus, according to 25A, if Biden becomes incapacitated, Harris succeeds him and nominates a new V.P. (who must be confirmed by the House and Senate), and Trump's position as Speaker of the House would be untouched.

Regards,

Yes, I am aware of her increasing incoherence and hope her demonic “shelf life” is reaching the end of its shelf life.

Still, I think the best scenario is for someone, preferably Jim Jordan, will become our next Speaker.

Don’t trust Kevin McCarthy to champion PDJT’s MAGA agenda.

“It would tie him down to one place having to be at congress most of the time negotiating with all those parasites. “

~~~
And he would be a great negotiator, which is actually an argument for why he should do it, but you are right, it ties him down, and it doesn’t fit his strengths as a planner, a meeter, and a doer. Way too much procedure and ceremony, not enough of sinking teeth into meat.
It is a fun idea but if it’s coupled with impeaching Biden and Harris so DJT can assume the presidency, that’s just too illegitimate a path.
Let Congress turnover in 2022 and then let DJT (or DeSantis) run in 2024
Oh yes.. I’m SURE that the SAME Republican Party who worked so hard WITH the Democrats to remove Trump from the White House - are gonna make him Speaker of the House…
Say, Charlie Brown.. wanna have another try at kicking this football??
Yeah - I never liked that idea - it would be such a demotion.
Plus, the pathway from Speaker to the Presidency is a lot less likely than people think: the Speaker is third in line only if the President and VP are removed simultaneously.
For example, if Biden was removed, and Harris became President, she would select a new VP - and unless she happened to select Pelosi, Pelosi would remain Speaker.
Presidents and VPs could be replaced any number of times - and unless they were both replaced at once, the Speaker would remain stuck in third place.
